I have had a few enquiries this week due to quite a few childminders in my area retiring/leaving.

I was speaking to one of the mums enquiring today and she said that three of them are leaving childminding purely because of EYFS. Another two are moving out of the area.

I just wondered if this was the same where you are too? Childminders giving up because of EYFS?

In Scotland so doesn't apply to us, but I think if it did there would be a similar situation going on.

Such a shame, but a bonus for you ;)

Have heard of a few giving up but that is due to lack of work in this area so they can't afford to hang on any longer and are getting jobs elsewhere. Such a shame.

I have heard of one childminder who is thinking of giving it all up, and she has been a minder for years. But I am not sure if it has anything to do with eyfs though.

Two around here are retiring due to the EYFS, a few keep saying they are giving up, but whether or not its all talk Im not sure. I do seem to be having quite a few enquiries at the moment though so maybe some are.

I dont know about giving up but you may all think I am mad but I am liking EYFS. I feel like I am using my brain a lot more and I am enjoying the effort I am putting in. Ok I havent got my head round it totally but a bit of a shake up stops us all plodding along. Maybe its because I have a 2 year old of my own and I feel like its doing him good.

Yes....there are a lot of minders giving up all around the country.

AND - it will continue to get worse in the next year.

I know of 2 that are definately giving up, one has only been registered since last August and the other 4 1/2 years, mainly because of EYFS i think x

I don't know anyone actually giving up. But I must admit, if I was starting up from scratch now, I think I might have found it all a bit overwhelming and not gone through with it!

its daft, we are losing good childminders for the simple fact of writing stuff we do everyday done on paper. It would of been alot better if they had sent the forms (which they have designed) to our houses and said you need to fill these in daily, monthly and yearly, that way everyone would know what to do and there wouldnt be the "oh, what do they really want? am i doing it right?" etc. And yes i also find it a scary thought but thats because i dont know the unknown just like many of us!

hey guys!

Well after checking the local gov site in regards to how many minders there are.
origionally there used to be 31 about 1 yr ago but looking now there is only 13 in my area! but even so their still seems to be no work about at the moment. me and a friend who is also another childminder have not had an enquiry for such a long time now but their is competion of 4-6 nurserys in the area so could htis be the answer.
