Hi Please can anyone help? I am pregnant and starting up a childminding business so after my maternity I can work and look after my baby. However I have always looked after children with special needs and would love to specialise in this- is this possible? Would I set up as normal and advertise for children with special needs or is there a charity I can work through to offer this? Someone did mention social services will place children with special needs with childminders but I cant find anything about this in my area ( Bath) Please help! Thank you!:)

I would suggest you start up as a childminder and target your business marketing once you are up and running.

You could speak to social services as well however to be inclusive you would need to welcome all children, with or without disabilities.

Good luck with it all! :D

Our council used childminders for respite care but no one knows if this is going to continue atm. They found cms through the local network so that would be a good place to start. If you know of any support groups locally you could approach them to advertise yourself, sometimes they can pay for respite for parents and often its not so easy to find childcare that is right for the child. Have a think before you get in touch about your rates and what you can manage, for example of a child requires one to one care can you do that and would it cost the same as a child you could look after with another couple?
