We have just cleared the loft ready for our imminent house move, up there we found my childminding accounts from my first year of minding!

12th November 1984 I worked 5 days with one child, 8.30 am - 2.30 pm and earned the grand sum of ......

£18.00 for the week!

It was a lot of money though and we bought a new carpet with it! It was the first week of something that would change our lives forever. :)

Goodness!
Mind you I bought my Flat in 1984 and paid £30,000 for it. We sold it in 2004 for a touch under £200,000  Your £18pw would have paid the great part of my £99pm Mortgage.

I started work in Sept 1995, had a little one from 1pm to 5pm every day and charged £55pw

I started 15 years ago looking after a friend's little boy for £40 for 4 days. It wasn't a huge amount, but it made a big difference to us! When he left I put my rate up to £1.50 an hour, though I worried I'd price myself out of the market as I was one of the more expensive minders

My first proper wage was June 1985, so a year after this, and my monthly wage was £300!!! I was so rich - stayed at home and paid £60 a month digs money and the rest was mine for clothes, make-up and records:D
(apart from the poll tax - but best not to mention that:blush: )

In 1984 I had just got married, had our first flat and worked far too hard in an office. Can't remember what the money was but we also enjoyed spending it!

1984 for a great year for me, my first son was born :clapping: :clapping: 29th October, one of the best days of my life

We also bought our first house, think it was about £50,000, not bad for a 3 bedroom

Hope you've put your fees up since then Pauline

Ooooh I was 9 years old and loved Shakin Stevens (my guilty secret LOL), went to ballet and tap class all morning every saturday and was either a brownie or a guide. Being grown up seemed a world away back then. Perhaps I really ought to think about growing up by now ;)
