claiming miles when not required??

Hi

Ive just got back from doing school run.Arrived at school and mindee came up to me and said he was going with his sibling (and siblings dad) Phoned mum and she confirmed this saying she sent a txt earlier but for some reason its not got to me. Not a problem. But can I claim the mileage as still went out of my way ~(my children attend a different school). I would think I can but just want to check.
