Hello l am still very new to this and am struggling with observations. How simple does an observation need to be? what sort of things do we observe and document? sorry if this sounds a silly question

An observation needs to say something about the child... what the child can do, what the child has done, what the parents say the child is doing at home etc...

They can be simple you don't need to use posh language etc so long as they tell you about the child :D

With a simple observation i.e. you just happened to notice them doing something, you would record what they did and perhaps a brief sentence on what that shows about what they are achieving. With a more focussed observation you would spend time specifically observing them and writing down all that they say and do. Afterwards you can have a look at what you wrote and say what it is telling you about the child, and if there is any action that you feel is necessary based on what you have observed i.e. he / she needs more challenging jigsaws, or you need to work on his / her independence with something etc.

For more guidance and suitable forms relating to observations see the information about the K System in the business advertising section on the home page.

Hope this helps
