Returning calls to prospective parents

If prospective parent rang you but you couldn't talk and they said they'd ring you back in half an hour but they haven't would you ring them instead?
This just happened to me I dialled 1471 and wrote the number down ... but I wouldn't want to sound desperate. What do you think?

Probably I'd phone them back and just say I'd been out and sorry I'd missed their calls and ask how I could help them. You've nothing to lose and everything to gain. x
