I have cared for 3 children from the same family for 3ys,, they have had to move due to no fault of their own and are out of the area but mum wants children still to go to same school and me for when they move back, she is trying to sort taxis at the mo for school and for the children to come to me,, question is if a tax picks up what do i need in place,, i was thinking I could have a form with drivers name, signiture and tax reg plate on to cover myself and a password each time they take the children,, but what happens if I know the children are being put in a taxi without correct car seats,, obviously I have a duty to protect the children so probably shoulnt let them get in the car but then short journeys and taxis are bound by differnt laws regarding car seats so how do i stand with this?

I am hoping that it wont happen and that either the parent will collect or the taxi service will refuse to collect from myself,, I am not happy with it but the children should stop comming the end of june and as I have had them for so long and understand the circumstances I dont want to refuse if i dont have to, they are alovley family that I took on 3yrs ago on a years contract (colage student) and who return each year and will hopefully do so again september and i just dont want to say no to helping them with this but do want to protect them and myself.

Why not speak to your local council and see if any firms are approved in your area, lots of young children get taken to and from school in taxis it really shouldn't be a problem. Our local special school use taxis every day as some children have to travel over 20 miles to and from school and they are only escorted if the statement requires it.

if its a proper taxi regulated by local authority then all drivers are crb checked every 3 years, cars are tested every 3months, their bases know where they are at all times via a computer logging system or radio.

they dont not need to have car seats and have their own public liability insuranec and their own car insurance is much moire than a normal every day car uses even childminders.

just amke sure teh children are fastened in the taxi and that the parent signs to say once they are in the taxi they are not your responisblity.

i wonder sometimes why people cant accept that parents trust the taxi service or local bus service and their child to go by this means. why is it such a problem for a childminder to accept this????

i am sorry to go on but my hubby is a taxi driver and it costs us a fortune he pays £3500 in insurance for his car and public liabily, he has new brakes, tyres, brake discs, every month, a full mot every 3 months and if it has a fault his is nto allowed to work they tale his badge off his car until its fixed.
Also he pays £368 for his licence every 3 years and he pays for his crb every 3 years. all this is paid for by himself. Taxi drivers are like us they pride them selves on their reliablity and thast who they work.xxx

i hoep this helps you put your mind at rest.

Well said!!!!! I cannot see a problems with it either as long as they are registered then it is not our 'problem' once they leave our door.

I think we ALL are guilty of over anaylising (Spelt wrong) everything because we feel we have too

if the parent is happy for the children to travel via taxi then thats fine and it is up to her but I just wanted to make sure i cover my back incase anything happens so that i am not in trouble for letting them get in the taxi in the first place,, this would be a company provided by the county concil and is the service provided for school run so I am not even sure that they would agree to collect from myself at the end of the day,, its not the taxi collectin from mine then going to school its me collecting from school then the taxi collecting from mine and taking them home thats why I want it to be right and why im not sure they will even do it.

If the parents have made the arrangements then all they need do is inform you in writing.

If the parent tells you they are being picked up by "x" then as long as you give them to "x" and not "y" then you have done your bit. Leave it to the parents to sort out.

And i would definitly NOT be checking the seatbelts. If the driver had an accident on the way home and something was wrong with the belts they could say they didn't check them because you had. The taxi driver should collect from your door in the same way as any other collection - once they have left they are not your responsibility.

I would want it made clear in writing though that it was either the company as a whole who could collect or a specific person from that company.

Aside from that I wouldn't get involved.

no the taxi firm will be provided by the council,, she has had to move 6 miles away from the local school through no fault of her own so it shouldnt cost her anything
