well i am mandy and i am in crewe cheshire. I have been childminding since feb 2010 and i am full to bursting.

I started my foundation degree last october.

Before i became a cm i was a nurse consultant specialising in pharmacy. I taught both nurses and doctors. I have a teaching qualification but that is only for the over 16s.

I started minding cos i enjoy being with children and i wanted to be my own boss. Also i need to be at home cos i have an 18 yr old DD who has special needs. She needs me to be around to enable her to be independent (i know that contradicts itself)

After 20 plus years in the NHS i have never had such a great job. I love being a cm and am as proud as punch. My hubby supports me 100% and without him i wouldnt be able to do this.

oh....i have another daughter who is 24 and lives in london...she is another lovely person too

bet you wish you hadnt asked!

well I've been cm'ing for 6 1/2 years, before that I was an HR Manager for 10 years. I started when dd was 2 and ds was just in reception year. Before that both my two went to a fab childminder which is why I wanted to try it.

Since starting I've been in college pretty much all the time (bar one year), doing my level 3 and then my FD and then my BA Hons top up year. I used to work 5 days a week all year round but can't cope any more   so now work 4 days a week and 2/3 in the holidays (as most children are t-time only).

congrats on your nearly anniversary and good luck with the baby

I'm Jo and i'm down in (not so) sunny Devon, originally from Berkshire. I got married in November and we are in the middle of buying our first house which will have a playroom :D can you tell i'm excited about that bit the most?! Just so excited to have more space and to be able to close the door on work at the end of the day.

I've been minding 4 years now, was five days a week now i just do three (best decision i ever made, i'm so much happier!). I started minding during my final year of Uni, now have a degree in Education Studies and Early Years Professional Status under my belt :) I have recently had Ofsted to visit and passed my FCCERS assessment so can take government funded 3 & 4 year olds from next term. Oh, I'm also an auxiliary nurse at the rather large well known hospital down here!

I have a potential new parent and her two LO's coming to visit this evening so keep ya fingers crossed for me please - if she signs i'll be full again! :clapping:

Hi im Kath, I live in Manchester and im a qualified nursery nurse. I have always worked with children in schools nurseries etc, i have 3 children of my own, a daughter aged 20, a son aged 15 and a son aged 8. I have been minding now for 3 years and at the moment i am full, it took me a good 2 years though to establish myself in the area i live in and for my name to be out there , i would say the main thing that worked for me was to go to all the toddler groups where parents are there with their children and are often looking for a good childminder. I love my job and working for myself is the best thing i ever did. :)

Hi Adele, I'm Becky, I live in Cambridgeshire with hubby and have 4 sons, 29, 28, 23 and 19 (writing their ages I'm shocked!) I've been childminding for 11 years (again shock!) it doesn't seem that long at all! I've been lucky enough to be full almost the whole time, mostly from meeting mums at toddler groups/parks and from recomendation from parents I'm already minding for. Previously, I worked part-time for Tesco (where I met hubby no. 2) and before that I stayed at home to have the boys.

I've just become accredited so I can offer the funded places for 3-4 year olds and planning on taking my level 3 in September (fingers crossed)

Good luck with your new baby and with childminding, it's the best job ever (especially in the good weather) ;)

I live in lovely Lincolnshire - originally from Manchester and moved her 3 years and love it!

Have ds age 9 and dd almost 5.
Qualifed nursery nurse - 3 years in nursery (hated it!) 1 year Au Pair in America, 3 years Nanny and 9 years Childminder.

Full to bursting - no childminders in the town - few in villages.

Praying for a lotto win to get my much needed playroom - please, please, please!

Off back to Manchester this weekend to be a bridesmaid for my best friend (from my 1st day at Grammar school) - very excited and very nervous to for some reason! - mainly because I'll blub like a baby!

Good luck! ;)

Hi

I live in Wiltshire and I have been childminding for 12 years:D I have always worked with children, qualified as an NNEB when I was 17 and worked in lots of places - nurseries, schools, hospitals etc. We were told we would never have children so getting pregnant at 39 (and again at 41) was a massive shock! I gave up working outside the home to look after my boys who are now 9 and 12.

I gave up looking after children in the daytime when my last one went to school last year and now only do after schoolies (mostly over 8's) but I am full to bursting with a waiting list so doing ok.

I really enjoy the older children. I like childminding but its not a career for me, just a really nice job that I can do from home. I will never get an outstanding from ofsted as I simply refuse to kowtow to all their crap rules that change from inspector to inspector.

Oh and I hate the word kids - hence my username

Hi all (and Adele...what a lovely idea for a thread by the way!)

My name is Becky and I have been minding for 2 and 1/2 years. I have 2 boys of my own aged 6 and 4, and am totally full with little mindess at the moment (long may it continue, touch wood, fingers crossed etc. etc.).

I live in Ramsey, Cambridgeshire and am having a brilliant time as a childminder here after moving from forces quarters on my husbands Air Base last summer. Almost signed myself up for a teacher training course to become a secondary school teacher in January but decided at the very last minute that I love childminding too much, and that being my own boss, drinking cups of tea in the sunshine whilst the kids play, having a legitimate excuse to feed the ducks whilst get paid to do it, was just too much to let go.

I have just moved to a village outside Chippenham in Wiltshire, first registered in 2001 first in Wiltshire and since been registered in Cyprus for 3 years, then Oxfordshire, then Cambridgeshire/Hertfordshire boarder now back in Wiltshire (hopefully our last move )

Kelly, I'm going to hazard a guess at your frequent moves to the locations mentioned above having a military connection?

I was born in South Yorkshire, moved to West Yorkshire and now live down south near Windsor.

I have two children, dd 2.3 & ds 4.8 yr olds. Been married for nearly 10yrs.

I wanted to be in Childcare when I was 17 but family matters changed that.
I moved down south when 18 and did various jobs before becoming a project coordinator and the Manager for a translation company.

I had my maternity leave and took a yr out after my dd. Really didn't want to go back to office based, wanted to spend more time with my dd then i did my ds.

So after battling post-natal depression I decided to do something for ME and go in to CC. Becoming a CM will hopefully mean I get ME back, more structure in my dd routine (as ds at school) and i'll make some new friends.

I'm really looking forward to the journey (as well as been scared)

xx
