I have been for training in how to use an epipen because my 8 month old mindee had an allergic reaction this morning, they will be issuing 2 epipens to be carried at all times with him. Was a bit worried that I won't have any spare in my first aid box? Just wondered what everyone else did and should I have a spare one. Many thanks.

They have a very short shelf life and so doctors are usually reluctant to issue spares and expect them to always be carried and not forgotten, you could ask as we got spares for school but as they are so important they are never left behind.

Medication doesn't go in your first aid box.

They must be stored separately to first aid in a named envelope or pouch with the child's details and permission slips.

Do a risk assessment of how you will keep them safe in the house and on every outing.

They must be taken everywhere with the child - and like fi fi says keep a note of the expiry date, it's very short.

hth :D
