I've had a chat with my coordinator today and she thinks it's ok to buy a computer with my CPD bursary which is great as I currently use the children's homework computer

So I have a £200 bursary and would need to top up with my money.

So the questions is, laptop, notebook or ipad? But I don't really know enough about things like that to make an informed decision.....

Can the ipad take CDs/CDroms? I believe the Netbook can't......

I need to be able to use emails and come on here :D Plus research for work. I need something I can stick a USB into. And something I can use Word with. Hm, sounds suspiciously like I need a laptop!

Does anybody know anything about things like this? Any dos and don'ts? Any help?!

I've got an iPad and its fab but it's essentially a giant ipod...

No disc drive
no usb slots
wont use flash (like all apple products) so bits of websites wont work but others will. Eventually flash will be replaced with html 5 which does work with apple but right now nada...

BUT
fantastically quick to load, press the button and its on!

is fine to go on the net and the forum

I have kindle on mine too so its good to read books on the move

No word but there is an app you can download that you can write in (its not free) and you can print from an ipad but again need additional software and I think maybe an iprinter. (I have a laptop and an ipad so didn't bother with the word processor and print options.

A laptop is probably a better buy for you, but an iPad if fun, funky and fantastically small to carry around! It all depends on what you'd really use it for.

Dont waste your money on an netbook, bought my sons those last Christmas and wish I'd spent an extra 50 quid and bought laptops!

I can print from my iPhone to my wireless printer, so I presume this would be the same for and iPad.

Ooohhhh... that looks good. Does it come with Word? I definately need one that doesn't have Vista, our PC has it and it's an absolute nightmare! And this (the children's) laptop (my brother's old one he gave them for homework) doesn't have Word, which causes all sorts of problem when I try and email stuff to people.....

I have an iPad and can print from it but thats only cos my husband is a geek and has got a server upstairs that my iPad links up to so I can print but I'm sure there's an app that allows you to print via wi fi. Def don't need a special printer!!!
