Today the Mindees had their faces painted, they chose to be witches and really enjoyed it, so I was thinking of taking the witch theme a little bit further and doing some stories and making some puppets, fairytale theme?? Can anyone recommend any witchy books please suitavle for a 2, 3, and 5 yo? Only one I have ever heard of is Meg and Mog!

Also would this be next steps in planning? Sorry but I am new to this :S

Thanks all

How about traditional fairy stories, Hansel & Gretel, You could make gingerbread to repesent the witches house, go outside & make a path with small pieces of bread & see if the children can follow them back home. talk about keeping safe from people we don't know who appear nice etc etc

meg and mog and winnie the witch books are fab. Room on the Broom Story/Song.

Hansel and Gretel is cool and either snow white or sleeping beauty (or was she a wicked fairy???)

Just look at some cool halloween activities for ideas.

What about making some jelly with sweet spiders or bugs in them

Once set put the jelly onto the table or into a messy play tray for the children to play with and explore using a range of senses.

Areas of learning covered:

Hansel and Gretel is a theme at my daughter's nursery now. They have a cage (looks like something for a rabbit just a bit taller) and children like to go an sit in it. There are only 3 and 4 yo there so not much else was going on with the cage but reception children quite liked acting it out ... pretending to be feeding the one in the cage and then checking the fingers. TBH the fist time I saw the cage and a child in it I was a bit  ... thought it may be a new time out zone or something so I questioned it ... now I'm laughing at myself

Thanks everyone you really have inspired me, we are going to make the witches house from a Huge cardboard box during the first week of the holidays and next week we will do stories linking to this and gingerbread cooking/maybe some scary food :D Love the Jelly idea!!

Would have been lost without you all, now the cogs are finally whirring lol!!

Can I ask how long you all stay with a theme for? Thanks
