my son goes into year 3 september and im just wondering if it works the same for him as it does for those who start reception?
Will he go into my over 8 category or still remain in 5-7 until he reaches 8?

I * think* it is the day the turn 8 and the catergory is only 5 and rising 5's and no other catergory ...

No he moves up when he reaches his 8th birthday. There's no 'rising 8' clause unfortuately.

Not until his 8th birthday! My DS turned 8 in Feb, luckily I had my inspection at the end of Jan and mentioned to the inspector about getting him taken off my numbers and the day of his birthday I received my new certificate :)

I don't think you will be allowed over your numbers without an assistant. They tend to grant extras in the under 5 category, but on condition that the total doesn't go over (usually 6 in total under 8)... hope you can work something out :)
