Hi guys,
I'm planning to up my hourly fee this month - all the parents know that I plan to increase but I haven't told them by how much yet, mainly because I'm not sure! Does a 25p increase sound about right or should I do 50p? I only have one once a year and it's to reflect rises in everyday costs of living.
Any opinions...

How much do you charge per hour?

I think 50p is a big increase TBH. That would mean an extra £100 for a full timer.

I havent been registered long enough to do an increase yet but I am planning 10 - 15p per hour per year depending on what other minders locally are charging.

This works out about 3 - 4 % which I think is fair.

A 50p increase would be about 15% increase for me.

Yeah, 50p does seem a lot. Hadn't really thought that one through! I'm thinking 20-25p an hour now.

Hi,
yes i think 50p increase is too much & be quite expensive if siblings are using service.
I have been childminding for 7yrs & only put my fees up twice, i dont do an annual increase & that is the norm in my area. Though i understand that every area is different.

I charged £2.75 when i first started in 2003, now i charge £3.00 and thats five years later! your pay rise should be little at a time, as not scare people off! plus becareful that you dont out price yourself against other local childminders either. :littleangel:

Was just hoping to keep it at a round figure, but you're right, think inflation is 4.1% so it should reflect that. Think I charge about average for my area so don't want to outprice myself. I am going to do an increase though, I want to start as I mean to go on.

Yes, i agree with Jenni. I would enquire what other childminders etc are charging in your area, as you dont want to put it higher & therefore may potentially lose out.

i know where i am, there are some small differences between childminders fees & you do see some parents going with the cheeper, regardess of care provided, reports etc
Though we are very lucky in the fact that we are always full, so dont have many problems filling spaces as demand is very high!
