Here are a few ideas for celebrating trees and a nice end to Earth Day activities!

Arbor day official site - http://www.arborday.org/

PSED – talk about how we are reliant on trees to survive and how important they are in our world.

CLL – visit the library and look at a non-fiction book about trees. Marvel at the different shapes, sizes, colours etc in the world.

Short stories to print and share with the children -

PSR&N – find out about the sequoia, the tallest tree in the world. Can children imagine how high it is? Draw yourselves on a big piece of paper, then draw the sequoia next to you.

KUW – learn the name for the different parts of a tree – roots, trunk, branches, twigs, leaves, buds etc and discuss what each part does.

PD – trees can be fun! Visit the park and run round some big trees... play a racing game between trunks.

CD – make a tree with painted hand prints. If children do not like getting messy, they can draw round their hands and decorate instead.

Enjoy! :D

I didn't know y'all celebrated Arbor Day over here! Awesome. I reckon Earth Day's date was chosen to tie in with it, initially. When I was a lg, we used to get little twiggy tree saplings to plant every year from school.

I love my trees.

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree

I saw a great idea, like th one Sarah mentioned above, where you use brown footprints to make the trunk of the tree and green handprints to make the leaves. Was really cool and something I'm doing ths year (calling it Our Friendship Tree). Just hope the weather is decent cos it's gonna take a long piece of paper and I'm not keen on painted feet in my house!! I'm using plain white wall paper.
