I'd just like to draw peoples' attention to the growing debate over the eastenders SIDS story line. There's a discussion on radio 5 about it at 10 am.
A large number of people are now boycotting the series due to the insensitivity of the subject.
Without getting too drawn into the whole baby swap aspect, I'd like to say that as the mother of a little girl who died at 10 weeks to this , I can't see how the death of a baby can ever be seen as light entertainment to be shown in the early evening.
The death of a baby is the most horrific thing imaginable and to have it viewed as misery porn is very disressing for all bereaved parents and their families.
if anyone would like to show support for this point of view, please add to the large number of complaints to the BBC.

My little girl was stillborn, not the same but hard enough to bear. I struggle looking at newborn babies still, almost 8 years on!

Hugs to you, the death of a child is something none of us should ever have to live through

I am another who has boycotted the series since I heard what the storyline was going to be and I think I will join you in writing a complaint!

They have gone too far! imho

i never watch eastenders but in my opinion they could have kept the story line in, these soaps are based on real life (although they do go over the top), provided they do it sensitively so to raise awareness to cot death, but the fact they have done it the way i have heard is disgusting.

i can however understand how people who have experienced something as terrible as loosing a baby would not want to watch it and my love and support goes out to those people

I watch Eastenders if it's on and I'm not watching something else, but don't actively follow it. I started to get into it more over Christmas but when I saw this storyline was coming up I haven't watched it since.

As far as having a storyline about SIDS, if done in the right way, certain storylines can be an excellent way to raise awareness of issues so I don't think it is a bad thing to have this situation IF they are done sensitively and in the 'right' way.

HOWEVER, I think they have turned this into a farce with the whole swap thing and even just the thought of this leaves a very bad taste in my mouth.

I am blessed with 2 healthy children and cannot even begin to comtemplate how it feels to lose a precious child - I cannot imagine how those of you who have been in such a tragic place must feel seeing this being used as entertainment.

I won't be watching Eastenders again.

Shame on the writers.

i love eastenders and do feel the story line about sids should be kept in but as for the swap its ridiculus (sp) its just made a laughing stock out of the real issue

I agree, and in the past the have done contentious issues in a very sensitive way - they have lost the plot with this one. I've just emailed my complaint to them.

There has been the highest amount of complaints they have ever recieved heres the link:

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s2/eastenders/news/a295972/enders-baby-plot-sparks-3400-complaints.html

Apparently due to the complains they are toning down some of the 'death scenes' don't know how that fixes a really sick plot. :( I know they are trying to raise awareness but they don't need to do it in such a controversial and upsetting way.
