What do you ask the parents to provide, and do you have that in writing anywhere?

There is space on your contract for this.

You can reasonably ask them to bring in nappies wipes and creams
sun hats/ sun cream
hats gloves scarves wellies

Plus some childminders get parents to provide food.

I write in the space provided on page 3 of the NCMA contracts. All mine provide are Nappies and Formular milk. also I write down clothes for the weather, coats, rain coats suitable shoes, wellies etc. I do tend to remind parents about clothes regularly though.

I also request all bottles and food until a baby is 1.

One of my mums supplies food for her LO, but its only one day a week and he is the only child I have that day. She pays a slightly lower rate and it was my fault cos I misquoted, but we negotiated that she would supply lunch

I have it in my contract & in the parent info that parents provide nappies, wipes, creams (if needed), change of clothes appropriate for the weather and any specialist equipment that may be needed by their child.
I also ask for baby formula or ebm and weaning food until the baby is able to eat "normal" food with the rest of us.

nappies, nappy creams etc and formula milk. I provide wipes, nappy sacks and all food, though make it clear to parents that they can send food for babies if they wish.

I have always requested a box of tissues and a packet of wet wipes once a month .Summer holidays i give out a list e.g . 24pkts crisps,3ltre squash, tub of ice cream, box of bicuits, ice lollies etc and get parents to choose something of list.Started doing this as some parents regularly bring things for all children to share ,others nothing ,so i decided they could all contribute .This is written in my contracts.

Also include usual change of clothes, gloves, hats ,meals etc

All I used to ask they brought was the child. Now I get them to bring everything, I don't keep anything here except toys, art supplies and highchairs. Parents provide food, clothes, nappies and other hygiene items, bottles, milk, one even brought bowl and spoon :) although I do hold enough of those - just. I got a bit fed up of my home being overtaken and having no room left for my kids, so I put my foot down.
The parents are actually really cool about bringing it all too, same as they would if they were at school or nursery. I have it within my handbook that they provide everything, but I also tell them at the initial interview.

I've put this in my handbook:

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I PROVIDE?

• Slippers
• Food and snacks
• Cows milk, water, juice
• Hand towels and flannels
• Age appropriate cutlery and plates/bowls
• Nappy bags
• Baby wipes
• Highchair
• Pushchair/pram/sling
• Travel cot and sheets
• Toys, games and books
• Bibs
• Aprons
• Daily diary

You will need to provide:

• Nappies
• Weather appropriate clothing, wellies, gloves, sunhats, raincoats etc
• Bottles either containing breastmilk or formula made up by you at home OR
• Empty bottles and cartons of ready made formula. I have an AVENT steriliser so can sterilise AVENT bottles.
• Dummies/comfort objects
• Food for puree weaning babies. (Jars or Fresh)
• Sun cream
• One set of spare clothes – regardless of age! If you are potty training then several pairs of pants
• Any non-prescribed medicine to be used. i.e Calpol etc clearly labelled with your child’s name
• Any prescription medicine to be used. It is helpful if you can leave an inhaler/epi-pen here if your child requires it so that it cannot be forgotten.
• Blankets for naps. Babies may find it extra comforting if the blanket smells of Mum or Dad.

I ask for nappies, formula milk and a change of chlothes. However, today one mum brought both her children aged 2 and 3 and it was only after she had left i realised she had driven off with the changing bag etc. Luckily the youngest is toilet trained and we don't usually have any accidents - keeping fingers crossed!

Good point, if you ask parents to provide nappies and they forget, do you keep spares, and do you charge for those? Same with babymilk?

I dont keep spare nappies, although one parent gives me half a bag every now and then, so could 'borrow one' if really desperate. I did have one parent forget to put any nappies in the bag (only child at the time in nappies) and she worked in London. I paniced on what to do, but text mum and she said buy a packet locally and she would reimburse. I did keep a couple back out of the pack, just in case it happened again
