As stated in a previous thread DS been off school today due to being sick last night.

Spoke to Headmaster of school today to say that he wouldn't be in and I said that he would be back Wednesday, to which he replied its only 24 hours after the last bout of sickness.

Well Ive just checked the guidelines, thinking I had got it wrong and it states 48 hours

Hey ho.......I'll send him back to school tomorrow just like the headmaster said;)

It's different for school age, 24 hours for them, but 48 hours for pre-school age.

i thought it depended on how many bouts rather than the age, i.e. sick or d. once, then 24 hours or more than one bout then 48 hours

LOL running a poll on FB at the mo, and we are all saying 48 hours, and I have just checked the guidelines AGAIN and it says schools and other childcare settings........but who am I to argue with the headteacher.

To be fair, I am pretty sure he hasn't got a nasty bug he was just cough cough cough last night and I think it made him sick and now him and Mummy :yawning:

Health Protection agency states 48 hours from the last bout of sickness and/or diarrhoea. It doesn't matter about the age, I would use their guidelines as then parents are less likely to argue. Hope this helps :D

Have you got a copy of sickness policy and does it state where they get their guidence from? Don't know too much about school age only under 5's.

Schools say 24hrs as otherwise it looks bad on their attendance stats. No wonder some schools go down like flies if Headteachers ignore the guidance

I think it's meant to be 48 hours as well but take the point about attendance statistics.

My daughter's pre-school excludes for 72 hours after the last bout - and they're strict about it :clapping:

My children have been to 3 Primary schools between them are now at High School and I have los at 2 different schools and one at Pre-school and all state 48hrs after the last bout.

If your lo was last sick on Sunday pm then 48hrs is return to school on Wed.

All schools in my area that I know about have a 48 hour exclusion. To me a bug is a bug and does not matter how old the child is.

Love to hear what is said when you take child to school

The guidelines do state 48 hours as everyone has said. But they are only guidelines and it up to each setting / school to put together their own policy and timeframes, maybe you should ask for a copy!

Probably more to do with attendence records more than following the guidelines

Well I took him back to school today as the headmaster said....and no one questioned his attendence.

Interesting though, today he returned with the newletter and there was a bit in it about attendance targets........naughty naughty headmaster

I have gone through the school's portfolio and nothing is mentioned about exclusion periods for illness.

Now I really could stir up a hornet's nest here....couldn't I, but should I;)
