I am working 8-4.30 on New year's Eve for my shift working parents. Only day booked for one child at the moment. Altough I am pretty sure I will have my respite child at some points (not xmas & boxing day though).

Not working xmas eve though:clapping:

I'm officially finishing the Wednesday before Christmas and not going back until the Tuesday after New year - but unofficially having 1 lo Christmas Eve and New years Eve as mom on her own and no other option (don't mind as he's a sweetie) :)

It's the 1st time I've had any extra time off and really looking forward to the extra couple of days before Christmas to get things done :)

I am closed from Wed 22nd to Wed 5th Jan - and I can't wait. Before Xmas I will be rushing about doing all my family shopping and organising everyone else! Then it will probably take me a couple of days to get use to the idea that I can relax and watch tv while it snows outside  with my kids.

I'm finishing on 22nd and not back until 4th Jan.

I've never worked Christmas Eve, I have it in my contracts that this is my family time and hubby is always off work between Christmas and New Year so don't work then either.

It's nice to have a break and relax.

same as most of you - I'm doing a half day on Xmas eve (then straight out to lunch with the pil's!) and not back until the 4th!!!

I've only had 1 week off properly this whole year, so i can't wait, especially as dd is 21 months old so it will be extra special with her!!!

Awww you all so lucky. I can't afford to lose the money (I don't charge for my holidays) so I'm offering to work in hope that they won't need me

Oh bless :(,
I don't charge either, but put money aside through the rest of the year.

My problem is more that I hate letting parents down. Luckily though, I've been strong this Christmas: told parents I'll only work days worth working due to demand (they're mostly term time only and ad hoc in hols if i'm available) and so am only working the one contracted day on 20th! It'll be weird....

So I'm having 21st till 4th jan off: can't wait!!

Fingers crossed your parents don't need you

bws,
Wendy :)

You are lucky. Christmas is very busy for dh, he is a music director of a church and the two children are in the choir.
He has 3 services on Christmas Eve and gets home about 2am on Christmas morning  Then one on Christmas morning and this year because Christmas Day is a Sat he still has to do the service on Sunday, Boxing Day.

I have nearly always worked on Christmas Eve. I quite enjoy it it is usually a relaxed day. If I need to go to the shops I take the children with me. We keep an eye on Santa delivering his parcels around the world on the computer, watch Christmas DVDs, make mince pies.

I dont take time off over christmas, other than the bank holiday days as I have always worked with parents who work in retail or carers. One of my mums asked me about xmas eve the other day and I said I was willing to work until 12, which was lucky as her MIL sometimes LO and she said no to xmas eve, but may compromise or its down to mum to find someone for the afternoon

Hopefully I will be finishing on the 23rd and was going back on the 4th Jan, but DS is coming over from Spain for a couple of days then so I am hoping to start back on the 5th, keeping my fingers crossed.
