02-11-2010, 05:28 PM
 i struggle to be ready for 7.20 when i have my occasional mindee

im not a fan of mornings....

02-11-2010, 05:28 PM
im happy to start at 7am :o)

I have 1 day a week at 7.30 and that is a killer for me as I have my own 3 children to get ready for school as well. The rest of the week its 8am so not too bad

I did have 2 before school children at 6.30am it was hard making sure I was up and ready before they arrived. I don't function very well in the mornings until I have had my first cup of tea! They would come in and go back to sleep but I was pleased when their mum changed their hours to be honest.

02-11-2010, 05:31 PM
The earliest starter we have is 7.30 ( DH is in charge of that one )

A friend of mine has a 6.30 starter but then she doesn't seem to need much sleep ( I am a right grump if I don't get my sleep )

02-11-2010, 05:31 PM
If someone asked for occasional care I would but woud charge more, otherwise you will be getting up and only getting paid for the one which wouldnt be worth it for me

02-11-2010, 05:33 PM
I don't start until 8am.

Occasionally, I might start at 7.30am but not before that!

My first is due at 7.30 but to be honest it is usually nearer quarter to 8, but I still have to be ready just in case. That is plenty early enough for me and if I can avoid taking anymore on with that time start I will

yes i really dont know what to do about this one the lady is really desparate and i am the only minder in the area . but it is very early and my little boy is only 15months old. i go to the school before and ater school 3 days a week,i have no children on a tueday at the moment and i just have one smaller child on a monday that i dont have to go up to school for.
im thinking of saying that i will do it but it will be £25 a day i know that it is alot but it needs to be that to make it worth my while and at least then i am not just saying no when she knows i have space

I have started at 6 am before and I hated it.

I ALWAYS start at 7.30 now, whenever a 7.30 mindee is leaving I look forward to an 8am start and then another one wants to start at 7.30 it has worked like this for the last 10 years!

02-11-2010, 06:12 PM
I start at 6.30.

It was hell to start with but now I'm used to it. I charge double fees before 8am and have two coming in at 6.30 so it's worth getting out of bed for financially. It does make me appreciate weekends a whole lot more too ;)

02-11-2010, 06:29 PM
I start at 0630,have been doing this for 2 years ,mum is hoping to change her hours soon ,9-5.Would never do this again so tiring.

02-11-2010, 06:30 PM
I start at 7am a couple of mornings a week (mum is a shift worker) and there are some weeks I do 3 early mornings and by the end of it I am so tired and grumpy:(

02-11-2010, 06:37 PM
I start at 8am which isn't that early I know but I work until midnight at least 3nights a week, so I just can't do early mornings as well. I'm getting too old :D

02-11-2010, 06:54 PM
Two or three times a month I start at 6am - not a morning person but I can manage it as it isn't every week. If it is a Mon then I don't normally finish until 1930 (and sometimes have NVQ course till 9:eek: ) so long day.

Some times I start at 11.00 - I like those days

02-11-2010, 06:57 PM
I'm contracted to start at 8 or 9 depending on the child, though there is an agreement to start earlier on occasions. I have started at 6:45am, though more often than not, it is 7am if I need to start early. And that is rare

I think 7 would have to be the earliest for me, though if that happens, I do find it really hard to get my two ready

02-11-2010, 07:05 PM
my earliest child at the moment comes at 8am 3 days a week, the other days i start about half past.

i would be very reluctant to start earlier than 8 but then again if i needed the work i may consider 7.30 but i would have to desparate! lol

02-11-2010, 07:15 PM
I don´t start til 9am and that is early enough for me but then i don´t have to do any school runs etc.
have got my little boy and do like the fact that he can have his breakfast just with me and that he gets some quality time just with me :)

02-11-2010, 07:28 PM
I start at 8am and that's early enough with my own toddler to get up and ready.
I'd do earlier starts occassionally but I wouldn't want to do it all the time. I don't like mornings and i'd start to resent it.

02-11-2010, 07:35 PM
I start at 6:30 some mornings and I am prepared to start at 5:30 if needed. I am better in the mornings - not so good in the evenings (main issue being restless legs which stop me from sleeping and prevent me from sitting still in evenings).

However all my children are grown up so don't have those mad mornings trying to get own children to school.

The good thing about childminding is that you can choose the hours you work.

7am but that really is pushing it, Normal start 7.30am

02-11-2010, 07:40 PM
I start at 7.30am but mindee can come in between 7.30 or 7.50am. The worst bit is having to get my own two up and tomorrow is the first day since the clocks changed.
Thank goodness it's only one day a week at the moment :)

02-11-2010, 07:41 PM

i wanted to write a thread like this. :)

i start at 7.30 on a tue and at 7.00 on a wed and fri. tuesdays and fridays i work until 5.30. tuesdays i have two 1 year olds, my two and two after schoolies. i am feeling it and are absolutely exhausted (ds doesn't sleep through which doesn't help). the 7 am starter only stays till 2 and mum can't start work later so if i decide to change my hours, she will terminate the contract.

02-11-2010, 08:01 PM
i do 7.30 3 days a week but mindee turns up at 7.10 one day she will catch me in the shower im sure of it

02-11-2010, 08:04 PM
i startes at 6pm a few years ago as i looked after prison oficers child and of course they did shifts

start 7-30 at the moment sometimes the parent asks for 7-15 if she has to get the bus

dont mind 7-30

02-11-2010, 08:06 PM
i have done a one off 4.30am start before  mindee arrived bundled in her bed duvet (she was 2.5 yrs) and i just laid her on the blow up bed next to the sofa - she fell straight back to sleep and i laid on the sofa next to the bed til 6.30 when i get up anyway. i'm willing to do early starts but then it's just me and dd so no qualms with it.

02-11-2010, 08:13 PM
My normal start is 7.30 and I do occasional 7am but wouldn't do any earlier unless it was just part time and I needed the money!

02-11-2010, 08:32 PM
I used to work from 6.30, 3 days a week for a but a month. I also used to work from 7am, 3 days a week for nearly 2 years. Now I work from 8 or 9am. But I would go back to working for 7am again if it were schoolies who can occupy themselves while I go everything organised in the mornings. Wouldn't do it for a under 3 though.
If you are an early morning person it might suit you well.

I do 6.30 starts, it ok if it is just a few days but when i get a week of 6.30am to 6pm i am shattered.
I have had 4 weeks of this and to be honest it is now getting too much.

02-11-2010, 09:40 PM
I am doing 3 mornings at 7am and there is no way I would do any earlier. I'm not really a morning person.

i start at 6 so get up at 5.15 have breakfast ,would start earlier if needed shift workers still need minders but i only have 21 year old at home ,hubby works away and is only home every 6 weeks for a long weekend

02-11-2010, 10:14 PM
I start at 7.15 two mornings a week and I struggle to get up on these mornings and sometimes only just make it downstairs just as they are arriving.

When I first started minding it never bothered me doing early starts as my own children were early risers but over the years I am finding it more and more difficult to get up in the morning. Out of choice I wouldn't start before 9 and I wouldn't do school runs but needs must and the right opportunity never seems to occur at the right time.

i have done 6.45 in the past but I struggle with my 7.30 at the mo:blush:

03-11-2010, 07:35 AM
I start at 7am every week day and wouldn't consider any earlier than that, I'm not a morning person so struggle as it is, plus quite often me being up wakes my own girls up when it's a bit early for them so I end up with grumpy children so would hate for it to be even earlier.

03-11-2010, 02:51 PM
I start 3 days a week at 7am, the earliest regular one in the past was 6.30am and I once did 6 weeks with some 4.30am starts whilst one parent was working abroad and the other had business trips which were long distance. I normally awake at 5.30 when my hubby leaves for work but stay in bed for an hour or so of broken sleep.

03-11-2010, 04:12 PM
I start at 8am and 7.45am on Mondays. Last year I started at 7.30am - and the extra half hour makes so much difference. I am much calmer and more prepared in the mornings and have DS1 and 2 up and dressed and everything ready for school and playgroup before mindees arrive.

I am also blessed with really considerate parents this year - one sits in her car with mindee if she arrives before 8am, and I have seen the other walking up and down the road if he is early:clapping:

used to be 8 am but begrudgingly I gave in and he 1 at 7.45 - which although is only 15 mins I don't like. However I only work term time so its swings and roundabouts as since they are teachers they all pay me 1/2 rate during the school holidays! So I do a 7.45 start as it is worth my while to have 14 weeks paid holiday :)

03-11-2010, 05:52 PM
7.30 for a regular contract :)

03-11-2010, 06:12 PM
mm , what time I start work , and what time mindees arrive are 2 different things. It can take me a full hour to set everything up , displays etc , quick checks , so mindee starts at 7 but I start at 6!

I start at 7.30am Mon-Fri. I couldn't start earlier than that, that's quite early enough, thank you very much

03-11-2010, 10:13 PM
I am a morning person, so I wouldn't mind what time I had to start.

If it was a one off I would accomodate their request if poss and for a reg thing 6am 6.30am.

I 'm ready by 7.30am , but usually its 7.45am before anyone arrives. New Mindee starts Feb will be dropped off at 7.15 2 days per week :panic: , but if parents need to travel a distance to work they need someone willing to start early (no Nurseries start that early here) I would not want it 5 days per week though.:panic:

I state I start at 7, but most come at 7.30. Occassionally one parent needs me for 6.15. Her son is 7, so I said I dont mind as long as she is ok with him watching telly whilst I get on with my housework until the others arrive. It suits me because I can get lots done then.
