How long should a child stay away from your setting if he/she has impetigo?

HPA guidance states "Until lesions are crusted and healed, or 48 hours after commencing antibiotic treatment" Antibiotic treatment speeds healing and reduces infectious period

hi,

my ds had impetigo last year and had to stay at home until the crust had fallen off and there was no more weeping from the spot. i think he stayed at home for 4 days.

hope that helps,

It depends on where the impetigo is and whether the child will leave it alone if it is covered.

It is highly infectious and if you have another child with eczema in the house it can be really nasty for them to get it.

The best is until everything has healed and crusts have dropped off.

Hth :D

Our local school will not accept the children back until it's completely healed.

sometimes infected eczema can take on the appearance of impertigo so i would always advise parents to see gp to make sure. xx
