Ofsted Numbers

Has anyone challenged Ofsted's allocation of numbers?

I am currently registered to look after 3 children under 8; 2 in EYFS and 1 not under 1, but a maximum of 3. I have two children of my own, DS is 8, and DD is 3.

So, I'm wondering why I don't have maximum numbers - thinking I should be able to care for 5 children under 8.

Does anyone know how I might challenge my nubmers?

How big is your house?

I was limited to 5 under 8s until I changed my rooms round & created a playroom. With the extra space they upped it to 6 under 8s.

i must admit, i hadn't had the room the way i wanted it before the ofsted inspector came, but how did you get them to change your numbers?

my front room which is the main room is 23x13 reducing to 23x10ft wide. The majority of the floor space is free (have 2 sofas, a dining table and the rest is play space).

The rest of the house is a 2 bed terrace, have a conservatory/lean-to (13x8) and our garden nearly 60ft.

when I had my dd young she was counted in my numbers

I had a friend who was limited due to medical reasons, once these were resolved she wrote in and asked if her numbers could be reconsidered. If you don't ask you don't get.

I'd phone them on Monday & ask why your numbers are limited. It could be an oversight or a mistake by them.

If there is a reason, at least you will know what you need to do to increase your numbers.

they go by cubic space, i can't remember offhand what it is! something like 3m squared for every under 5, and 2m squared for every 5-8. they don't include kitchens or hallways.

i remember my inspector at my first vist using a tape measure to measure my rooms!

my ofsted inspector didnt' measure my room, but i've just measured free space and it measures 21.22 metres square.

I'm going to write off to Ofsted and see what they say.

I challenged it when I had my inspection. The inspector dithered and left saying no but then a few days later a new certificate came though saying that I infact could take on an extra child.

The woman who did my pre-reg inspection said she didn't want to "stress" me out too much by making me think I had to fill all the spaces I had been given :rolleyes:

I think the mistake I made at that point was saying that I wasn't really considering afterschool care and didn't challenge her when she came up with the numbers

My flat is tiny and I'm registered to care for 4 under 8's plus my own 2 children who are 2 & 5years.
I would ring and see what they say.
