mindee's birthday-what to do?

E - my new mindee - starts properly in 2 weeks on the 11th of October. He's beeen coming to me once a week for 5 hrs to play, lunch and nap, and it's all going really well and mum and i get on brilliantly.

But I'm not sure if I should get him anything for his birthday. He's 1 on the 3rd of oct, a week before he actually starts, AND I won't be having him at all that week as mum wants to spend the whole week with him. So, would you bother getting him anything????

I'd send a card, or get the other mindees to make one.

Personally I'd get him a small token gift, maybe a book or similar just to show that you are thinking of him. don't spend too much or it might embarass the mum.

A homemade card from the other children in the setting would be a nice gesture as well.

Getting mindees to make a card is a nice idea. If he isnt with you all week I probably wouldnt buy a gift, at 1 he wont notice.
