Just sorting out my first aid box as some of the bandages are out of date.

Can I give these to the children to use in their role play doctors or is there some reason why I shouldn't?

I always use oad bandages for role play. As long as they don't strangle each other there shouldn't be a problem:rolleyes:

Yep - I get supplies of OOD stuff direct from St Johns, so I presume there is not a problem with them.

We were told to do this on the first aid course, and teaching them simple things like 999 and recovery position, so great teaching aid :) x

Phew! Because I do - it seems a shame not to.

Do St Johns Ambulance give away the out of date stuff or sell it cheap?

I asked this years ago to a guy I worked with in an FE college who worked for ST. Johns he was also responsible for all things 1st Aid in the college and was based in Health & Social Care Dept with childcare etc. He rolled his eyes and said they can't but because they are sold as sterile the manufacturers cannot prove that they remain sterile after a certain period of time. When we are first aid trained we are told to rip stuff up to make bandages if we have no bandages available so in an emergency out of date sealed bandages are fine to use they are as safe as a clean washed sheet or whatever.

Thanks ladies

It's annoying to have to replace them and costly too so didn't want to just throw them away
