hello all

hope you don't mind me posting - but a friend of mine is wanting to register as a childminder and asked me a question which I didn't know - and I though I know a place where someone will! :)

My friend has a 3 year old and all being well - once she's registered wants to advertise for and look after only mindees under 2 but is not sure if she can or would this be seen by ofsted as not being inclusive?

- ie does she have to offer care to all age groups or can she just specialise in looking after babies? - advertise herself as providing care only for the under 2's IYSWIM?

Thanks for your help ladies and gents!

(hope that all makes sense and I've put it in the right way!) x:blush:

I'm guessing she wants to care for children younger than her own? So won't always be under 2s? I don't see how it would work only caring for under 2s, what is she going to do with them after their 2nd birthday, give notice cos they'te too old?

If it's just to be younger than her own then that should be fine.

To be honest I would just advertise that she has an under 5 space and she will probably find the majority are babies anyway. I just wouldn't advertise for just under 2's as it is just easier. At the end of the day its her business and if she wants children younger than her child then fair enough. I only take children under 10 years because my eldest daughter is 10 and like your friend I didn't want her to have anyone older than her and it works well, obviously for my other 2 children it's tough! but they are used to having an older sibling anyway.

i had a parent at nursery ask if i would mind her DD when she went back to work after having babe - i asked what was happening to babe 'oh, she's going to X, a super minder who only looks after babies, she won't have them once they start nursery '

thanks for your replys - She's a very new friend but we had quite a chat about it and she said it was because she didn't want to mind children older than her little one and didn't want to do any school runs and said she just wanted to work with babies

I was quite suprised when she said it but will def pass on the good advise about advertising under 5 space xxx
