hi everyone...

I'm wondering a few things please....

If an 8 month old is teething would you expect him to have explosive poos running down legs or up back? or if these happen straight after a bottle or
food would it be more of a upset stomach issue?

I've only had the baby for a few days and did ask mum what kinds of poos
her baby normally had and have been told they are regularly runny and explosive... as a result after each meal today I've had to fully strip and clean.. and re-cloth my new lil mindee.

If this is all teething related .. at which point would you send your mindee home?

I know each child is different but today I did end up asking for an early collection as I felt sorry that the lil one could be not well rather than teething.

I'd welcome your thoughts please.. thanks for reading. x

if it wasstraight after every bottle idbe thinking more along the lines of an allergy to the milk!!

I would think allergy to something too, maybe milk, lactose or protein in the milk, my DD went through this and it took months of fighting with the gp to get her seen by a consultant. It wasn't until she had got so sore they would do anything, I think they thought I was a neurotic mother. I have had 5 so kind of knew it wasn't normal. Anyway get mum to pester docs for relevent poo tests to rule out infectio and keep a diary of foods and milk times, amounts and when and how LO poos and this should help speed things up for mum.

definately not normal!!! Even a runny teething poo should not explode up the back!

If it was an allergy or teething then i would not send mindee home :)

we have had it regularly with a mindee - mum went to docs several times, but couldn't find a reason for it!!! Unfortunately it meant we rarely went out with him as he would literally have to be stripped off and washed down when he had one!!!

Thankfully he seems better now (just the odd one) - but he is now 2 so whether it it is because he is on "normal" food we are not sure!

I'm with Tribe_Mummy on this. Record everything that the child eats whilst at yours and drinks and then record the outcome including how long it was before food/drink and the outcome.

I'd also suggest that mum does the same (perhaps you could speak to her about this) and then get her to take the LO to the GP to see if they can rule out allergies.

Does the LO get any other symptoms such as Hives, rash etc?

As for sending LO home - I wouldn't. If it is teething, then unfortunately it is something that just needs to be handled until the LO has stopped teething and if it is an allergy then until LO is being treated for this and having food/drink (if it is an allergy to this) excluded from their diet, then they will continue to have episodes like this. Just like Tribe_Mummy, I also have a child with allergies and it sadly does take ages of badgering GP before they take you serious. My son is now a lot better after taking all the stuff out of his diet that made him poorly - its just a long battle to find out what it is.

Good luck - not nice I know for you or LO, but there is actions that can be taken to hopefully sort this out for LO sooner rather than later.

Could have been toddler bowel - just means their bowel is a bit immature and therefore leads to runny poo lots. Nothing they can do about it, they just eventually grow out of it. xx

Not nice to have to deal with but if the little one isn't unwell ie no temperature, rash or other symptoms then I don't think you can exclude him.

Suggest the mum makes an appointment with either her health visitor or gp to discuss and see what they say.

Good idea from others to keep a diary of food/milk intake and the effect they have on little one.

hello,

i wouldn't think that explosive nappies after a bottle have anything to do with teething and would have called for an early pick up as well after changing lo several times.

i had a lo with an full runny nappy today after he had laxative. not nice but had to be dealt with. luckily i only had him. what do you do if you have a few lo's and you have to take one upstairs for a bath??

My daughter used to be like this, after LOTS of visits to the doctors it was found she was lactos intolerant. It wasn't her fault, poor girl was living on dirolight powders (sp) until it was sorted out :(

The last time this happened to me I had 3 children in the house.

I took all 3 upstairs with me into the bathroom... 2 sat on the floor singing songs and 1 had a quick bath, preserving his privacy as much as possible using a series of big towels - which I then boil washed twice :panic: .

It was hard work at the time but the only thing I could think of to do as the poor child couldn't help the mess he was in and a bath was the only way to clean him properly.

It does sound like the little one is reacting to something. I'd ask parents to chase it up.

My 18mth old mindee has permanent runny explosive poos up his back and end up in a full strip wash. After doing this a few times in a week I eventually asked mum to pick him up. She wasn't happy but neither was I to be covered in poo all day long! Turns out grandad had given him a WHOLE punnet of grapes the night before    was still coming out his rear end 4 days later

my son was exactly like this and started around 8 months old. He is intolerant to the protein in cows milk and still has diarrhoea often now. It could be toddler diarrhoea which lo could grow out of but mum needs to put her foot down with gp and get lo referred to a specialist. I found it difficult to get them to listen and had problems for yrs. I was lucky and had a very understanding cm who only called me to him once when he was having a bad day. You can tell difference in smell between tummy bugs and food related diarrhoea. Only problem for cm is it's time consuming. xx:)
