I was just wondering what you all do at your Childminding Groups. We attend ours just like a toddler session but we would like it to become more structured. Devised a plan of activities each week using the community as our topic.

Our goal is to raise our profile as childminders in our local community.

What do you do at your cm group.

Part free play, then some art and craft activities linked to a theme.

We have have drama workshops for the mindees, sign and rhyme. We have had the reptile man ( rather hunky) a little lamb at spring time, planting flowers in pot to take home, baking muffins.

They give up printed sheets on how it all links into the EYFS.

We are really spoilt at our CM groups :D

We have different activities or visitors.

Next week it's messy play.

We've have Clay, with someone who came in and gave us some lovely ideas.

We had a drumming workshop.

We had a dental Hygenist once but she didn't do much for the children, just spoke over their heads...she wont get invited back!!!

A couple of weeks ago we had a teddy bears picnic.

The groups are a chance for the children to socialise and the minders to network (as well as have a chin wag as my ole mum used to say) :D

We do a mixture.

We've had a police woman in, we've made shakers, drawing etc is always out. ours is in the children and family centre and the staff there are always friendly and pop in to say hi etc - we've even had a fire drill!:)

the one in our town dont do anything apart from drink coffee and the kids free play, i tend to drop in for a very quick cuppa then leave and do activities at home instead, the hall floor isnt very clean so the mindee come home mucky and my lo is frightened of all the children being loud and screaming... yet i go to one in a sure start center and its lovely, clean, tidy and friendly (just carnt remember when its one, lol) and worth travelling the extra 9 miles to get too...

I think it depends on the area you are in the minders that go and mostly what your minded children get from it, it would be lovely to do activities but when mentioned it never comes off or never organised by the leaders of the group...

Some of your groups sound fantastic xxxxxxx

We had a trip to the Fire Station ( say no more )

The dentist we had was great, she had 4 foot tooth brushes and a massive massive model mouth and all the teeth came out and the children had to put them back. She sang songs with them about cleaning your teeth. :D

We had a party in the park and the mayor came with all his chains. One of my mindees kept calling him Mr President

One of the other minders who is really mad kept curtsying every time she spoke to him. But he played with all the children, handed out the juice and they all had their photos taken with the President
