View Full Version : Lost Child/Risk - Tip

I thought I would share a tip that would help if ever the worst case scenario happened and a child was lost during an outing.

I always take the camera with me to record their activities on an outing, so before I leave I take a full length photo of each child, this means that in the event of a child being lost you have a recent photo and the ability to give a full and detailed description of what they are wearing.

It would be easy to forget what they were wearing if you needed to tell the police, especially during such a stressful situation.

If you do this, it is worth adding to your risk assessment.

Hope this helps :)

Genius!!!

Haven't lost one yet but do often try to do a mental run-through of what they are each wearing as an exercise.... it's really hard, especially when there's six of them!!

Thats a brilliant idea, thank you for sharing that :D

I used to be a foster carer and a 15yr old boy did a disappearing act one evening, when I reported him missing to the police and to ss they asked what he was wearing.....my mind went totally blank  It didn't make me sound very responsible

That is a fantastic idea - I have thought about this before when I couldn't see one of mine in the park once (own child) and I panicked and for the life of me couldn't remember what they were wearing.
I do use wristbands but i also tend to write my mobile number on their arms using a laundry pen as it comes of easier at the end of the day (parents are ok with this) - I think a wristband tends to get fiddled with.
I also carry a small notebook with the childs pix and emergency contact details in

all my children wear red t shirts with mobile no on the back when we go

stickers fall of get playerd with an get lost wristbands the kids fiddle with it and can be pulled off

and all my kids in each zone are shown a meet up point if they do get lost

and how many time do i head count in a day lol

though did think about dropping some at the monkey enclosure at woburn safari park what a brilliant day out for all ages i took from 1 to 15 year olds and they all had a good time no complaints atall and the older children even had a video camera and did their own documentry of the animals and comentry as they went round the enclosures
