I have recieved this today in reply to my complaint about the whistleblower programme on 5th March. Still not happy and the reply is still incorrect as they think OFSTED cover Wales too.:( . Unable to reply to this reply:(

Dear Mrs

Thanks for your e-mail regarding 'Whistleblower' broadcast on March 5.

Please accept our apologies for the delay in replying. We know our
correspondents appreciate a quick response and we are sorry you have
had to
wait on this occasion.
This was because we felt it was important to raise your concerns with
Executive Producer Lucy Hillman first.

The whistleblower from Ofsted had raised her concerns about the ease
with
which people could be registered as childminders. Our undercover
reporter
set about investigating what was involved in getting registered as a
childminder, not what might happen six months later for example. The
programme simply showed what she discovered. It was an accurate and
fair
portrayal of her experiences.

We did not investigate the registration process in every single local
authority in the country. We simply reflected the process our
undercover
reporter was subject to in her local authority.

Ofsted is responsible for registering and inspecting childminders in
England and Wales. As such, they were the appropriate body to approach
for
a response to the findings in our programme.

There was no intention to undermine the very good job the majority of
childminders do.

What the programme discovered was clearly distressing, it highlighted
serious problems that should not have been occurring and, it is hoped,
will
lead to improvements.

I'd now like to assure you that we've registered your comments on our
audience log. This is the internal report of audience feedback which we
compile daily for all programme makers and commissioning executives
within
the BBC, and also their senior management. It ensures that your points,
and
all other comments we receive, are circulated and considered across the
BBC.

Thanks again for taking the time to contact us with your concerns.

Regards

There was no mention that they were only investigating the process in one area in England. therefore it is not a correct, factual investigation. there was no mention that OFSTED only cover England so it is still wrong.

Dear Mr Wright

Thanks for your e-mail regarding 'Whistleblower' broadcast on March 5.

Please accept our apologies for the delay in replying. We know our
correspondents appreciate a quick response and we are sorry you have had to
wait on this occasion. This was because we felt it was important to raise

I understand you have concerns with the programme.

The whistleblower from Ofsted had raised her concerns about the ease with
which people could be registered as childminders. Our undercover reporter
set about investigating what was involved in getting registered as a
childminder, and not what might happen six months later for example. The
programme simply showed what she discovered. It was an accurate and fair
portrayal of her experiences. We did not investigate the registration
process in every single local authority in the country. We simply reflected
the process our undercover reporter was subject to in her local authority.

There was no intention to undermine the very good job the majority of
childminders and nurseries do.

Regarding nurseries, the programme also set out to investigate the concerns
of an inspector from Ofsted who alleged that many nurseries were not
operating at an acceptable standard. As such, we only investigated those
nurseries where we had prior evidence that standards were not good. We did
not set out to compare these to well run nurseries.

What the programme discovered was clearly distressing, it highlighted
serious problems that should not have been occurring and, it is hoped, will
lead to improvements.

I note you would like the BBC to cover the issue of registering as a
childminder again and I'd now like to assure you that we've registered your
comments on our audience log. This is the internal report of audience
feedback which we compile daily for all programme makers and commissioning
executives within the BBC, and also their senior management. It ensures
that your points, and all other comments we receive, are circulated and

The bbc and ofcom are terrible for handling complaints. I complained last year that trevor macdonald called bernard manning a fat white b*arst*rd and didn't get rapped for it. I know manning was a racist but i felt really strongly that trevor m shouldn't have said what he did. I was basically told that it was okay for him to say it. So i complained again and i quote "so it's okay for a black person to be rascist against white people is it?" Again i was fobbed off.

Good luck with this, i hope you sort out the bbc and their pathetic attempts to make childminders look so bad.

This is why I feel so strongly that we should all contact NCMA and get them onto it - they are supposed to represent us and they should be putting the facts straight.

No wonder so many providers are slow for work - programmes do a great job of scaremongering but do not do anything to actually show the great work that the majority of childminders do!

I contacted NCMA when it first aired and this is the response I got.

Thank you very much for your email of 6 March concerning the way childminders were portrayed in the BBC's Whistleblower programme on 5 March.

NCMA is in a continuing and ongoing dialogue with the BBC about their representation of childminders and we have also issued a press statement setting out our concerns about the programme. This draws attention to the evidence presented in the programme, and corrects the factual inaccuracies such as the statement that childminders are "council approved" childcarers rather than inspected and regulated by Ofsted across England. The statement also points out the programme's inaccuracies around the training requirements for childminders.

It is important that we challenge any misconceptions or misrepresentations about childminders and childminding and I would like to thank you for taking the trouble to contact NCMA about this.
