I know it is still quite a long way off, but I was looking at my long term planning and think that it's a good idea to start putting some ideas together, and collecting resources.

So, does anyone have any good ideas yet??

I feel that this is a golden opportunity and there are loads of things that we could do, disabilities, different countries, sports, China etc

Lets have some good ideas please that we can all share. Especially me!!!!!!

I think it is a fab idea! I remember at school we had to do a topic in the olympics when I was about 10, and i really enjoyed and I love the olympics.
It would be very multicultrial too, all the flags and places X

Myself and another childminder decided that we would base alot of activities/learning experiences on the Olympics this year. We thought we would base activities on gold/silver/bronze the Olympic moto 'faster, higher, stronger. Learn about the five continents (rings) generally about fair play etc and of course we thought about doing lots of activities outside, appropriate assult courses, games etc. As the Olympic flame is already on it's journey around the continents we made a paper flame and we are plotting its course and will continue until it gets back to China. We thought we could get the children to do their own opening ceromony as it is the summer holidays and the older children would be interested in that sort of thing.

If you think of any good ideas please share them.

I think I'll start training my mindees on Monday. 25 laps of the pool, 200m race round the park, bit of long jump before lunch......do you think OFSTED would approve of a javelin throwing competition for my under fives ?

But of course! You could link it to so many parts of EYFS - so long as you risk assess first of course!

Erm.....................

Well I did mean the Olympics in China in August of this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love Kelly's idea about mapping the route of the Olympic flame. I have the map on the wall that came with the Kids from Planet Food teaching materials, that will do the job perfectly.

And we can start now.

Thank you for sharing that.
