If the parents have all the info you could photocopy it.

http://www.makaton.org/

you could perhaps get funding, but I'm not sure where from !!!!!!

Hi There

You could take a look here. (http://www.totalcommunication.org.uk/makaton-signing.html) There are demonstrations on the signs lots of words down the bottom.

Can you not get funding to do a course, I'm on one at the end of the year!

I would definitely advise speaking to your childminding development officer or if you don't have one, contact your local early years department to speak to their senco. There should be support available for you.

If you are an NCMA member you can apply for funding for training from the Gail hall fund.

Heya!

I love Makaton and although our 15 month old daughter doesn't have any special needs, she signs alongside her learning to talk. My mindee's mum would also like me to use Makaton signing with her daughter as this is something she has seen our daughter use and she's gone out and bought a book & CD rom for use at home =D

Makaton is loads of fun, but there aren't a lot of free resources around. I highly reccomend watching with your mindee: "Something Special" on CBeebies with Justin Fletcher/Mr Tumble and also take a look at the CBeebies website as there's loads of printable stuff and I managed to make a Makaton book with it!

Also might be worth checking if your local children's centre or Sure Start provide a Tiny Talk baby/toddler signing class.

If you want any more info or advice please free feel to message me! =D

Hope this helps! Penny =)

You have probably checked already but in my local council the childminders have access to the same free training as all the nurseries. There is a training folder and you can pick as many courses as you like - there are a couple of Makaton courses available. I have no idea if this is common or unusual in the rest of the country.

Good luck! :)
