Second assistant

Probably been asked before...sorry! Does anyone know the rules on self employment on assistants? Thinking of getting a second assistant to cover really busy periods and we have a mindee who is going to be in a lower body cast for a few months so will need more one to one. Can they be self employed or would they have to be PAYE?

I think as long as they''re working less than 15 hours, they can be self-employed. My assistant hasn't started yet but I'm thinking of a back-up to cover her if she's on hols or off sick, otherwise I'll be over my numbers.

I haven't had an assistant before though and I'm sure someone will come along with a definate reply :)
