View Full Version : teaspoon isn't 5ml is it?

hi.. here I am thinking for years that a teaspoon is around 5ml.. until yesterday when my ex gave a measuring siringe of 5ml's and asked me to put it in a teaspoon.. I couldn't do it a teaspoon is too small...
did anyone else realise that? or is it is just me ?:rolleyes:

Yes i did but only because I have measuring spoons:rolleyes:
And whereas I like sugar in my tea dont think I would want 10 mls of the stuff :laughing:

Best to use a proper measuring spoon as teaspoons vary a lot and there can be a danger of overdosing especially with younger children. There was an article in a newspaper about this a few weeks ago.

Well, until recently we had a mixture of teaspoons old and new in the cutlery drawer and they were all different sizes, so I have never assumed that a teaspoon is 5ml, I always use a measuring spoon if something states 5ml. :thumbsup:

I have used a teaspoon in the past if no measuring spoon available - at least you are not in danger of over dosing.

'teaspoons', the ones we buy and use come in all sorts of sizes.
If you want a teaspoon measure you need to buy a set of measuring spoons, these are what you would need for measuring teaspoons, dessert spoons and tablespoons for a recipe. The teaspoon is 5ml in this set.

I think an old teaspoon was 5ml but like everything else they've got smaller over the years!

Same, I have cheap ones which the children take to school for yogurts so I don't mind them forgetting them;) they have a huge 'spoon' for a teaspoon
