Malaria

Does anyone happen to know?

I have a child coming back to my setting on Wednesday, he is flying home from a visit to Malawi today and has been diagnosed with mild Malaria. I have checked the HPA guidance and list of infectious diseases and Malaria does not appear. I have no idea whether I can admit him as usual. Does anyone have any knowledge about this.

I do not even know if Malaria is infectious from person to person.

Malaria is on the list of notifiable diseases but it is not your job to notify anyone - the doctor will do that.

There is no exclusion period that I can find. However it would be best to check with a doctor.

I would definitely not have the child back until s/he is well enough to cope with the normal routine of the day.
