I dislike cough medicines with a vengence!

If a parent brings a bottle I always refuse to give it to the child.

If you ask a doctor for cough medicine very few will prescribe it because as my doctor said to me the main reason you cough is to remove mucus from the chest.....if you surpress the cough then the muscus cannot be expelled effectively.

Thanks Tasha - I noticed something about this on the front of a newspaper this morning. Worth reading about.

Oh, I think I'll keep a copy of that, one of my parents often send lo with a 'cough bottle' and I will check its none of these. Thanks for that.

Thanks Tasha

Im not a fan of cough mixtures for little ones - unless occasionall at night so they can get a bit of sleep. I'd rather they coughed up what was inside!

I do notice it says in the middle of this article that none of the remedies has been shown to be dangerous when used correctly!

Thank you Tasha.

I don't use any of these thankfully, actually I am not a believer in cough medicines either.

I'm in for fun. My other job is as a pharmacy assistant. Calcough got removed last week with no reason why. I saw it on the news and they said only 6 but mentioned the guaifenesin i wondered why only a few were said as that is the most common chesty cough ingredient. Lots of unhappy parents i think they get annoyed that they can't have chest mix under 1 as it is.

Lots of happy customers who are already annoyed with decongestions being resized which are more then likely going to be otc or even p medication.

Quite suprised went in today and expected to be told what the protacol was. We were slowly being emailed by head office to remove certain ones of the shop floor. Nothing was said about selling to over 2s only.

Is one year still the recommended minimum age for eating honey?

That is a good point about the honey as i remember they say not to give honey to any child under 1.

Thanks for this I heard about it on an Irish news programme while in a shop in Dublin so missed most of what they had to say so needed to find out. Also please remind me why 1 year for honey I cant remember the reasoning behind it.

Not sure as it is in my Annabel Karmel book i think downstairs but think it has to do with botulism but not sure on that

However DO NOT give honey to a very young child, say; a year or under, it can give them botulism.

just found this on a site so for once I was right

Thanks for that don't think I ever knew that prob just told by health visitor when pregnant with my son so just kept the information until daughter was 1 and then forgot about it as I am not a great fan of honey and don't buy it often.
