Hi - I look after a little boy from 9.30 - 2.30 mon to fri. Last month though his mum had a deadline to finish or something and a lot of days I had him to 6pm. About 8 in total. This made an extra half hour rather than hour as she came at 6 and not 6.30. For that extra half hour should I charge half my hourly rate?

At first i thought I would charge the half hour rate then changed my mind and thought I'd charge the full hour as it was the difference of £15! It was never discussed in contracts - just says the hourly rate and her set hours!

Just wondered what the common practice is!

I've always charged a full hour although I know minders who charge by the half and even quarter hour.

It's up to you but if it says full hour on your contract then that's what i'd charge

I do currently charge by the half hour but when I increase my prices this will be another thing I am changing. I will be billing for the whole hour

I charge by the hour. I do have one mum that I have added a half hour charge because she was turning up 15 mins late every day. She now arrives 15 mins early as well to get the most from her extra half hour

In my fees policy I have stated that I will round up to the next half hour so yes I do charge half my hourly rate. I depends what you have in your policies and contract

At the moment I charge to the half hour, but only work unil 5:30pm then after this the hourly rate goes up!

My last mindee goes at 16:45 so have never used my higher rate.
