Good quality things.... and quality over quantity!

small world farm animals, wooden people, wild animals, dinosaurs, trains
duplo, mega blocks
doll/pushchair/blankets/clothes
trucks/cars - big ones with spaces to put people/things
ride on/push along/pull along for toddlers
treasure basket
blankets/wraps/sheets/throws for dens
good selection of books well displayed and accessible
sand
nursery rhyme/sing and dance along CDs
musicla instruments.... real ones, not all plastic!

these are the things that i have that are played with every day by most of the children. I have other items that are permanent fixtures at my house for the children like hobby horses (they love them!) a wooden clock with magnetic numbers and so on but the ones above are the 'core' items that are pulled out every day!

Happyland, played with by all ages, duplo, wooden train, crafts and board games are the most popular here, but I mostly have older boys at the moment.

I got a load of toys from Argos called the Chad Valley range- they do all sorts of things from art to outdoor toys and are very reasonably priced.
