Q starts the early learning unit at school in sept and went for his visit today. The school uses read write inc to teach phonics , has anyone come across it. ive used a few different schemes , from jolly phonics to letterland..but this is a new one to me....

have googled but not found any resources to support the learning , have any of you any experience of the scheme or know where i can access support resources without purchasing the whole thing ( not an option!)

Tbh you shouldn't really be getting that involved with the scheme at this stage.

Your role is to use the fun and games approach of the Letters and Sounds pack to encourage learning through play.

Then when the child brings things home from school, by all means do some reading practice with him but be led by his day-to-day learning and info passed on to you by the teacher / parents / child.

thanks sarah , and if this was a mindee i would do exactly that.

But ds is really enjoying phonics , and is excited by his own ability to start to see what words say - so would like to be helping him by using parts of the same scheme he will use when he starts in september. i do lots of things from the letters and sounds pack alongside , he is just ready for that little more.... bet i sound like a pushy parent , believe me compared to when ds1 and 2 were little im so laid back. he only does what he wants to do , what he is interested in , what hes ready for..its just that at the moment he is very interested in words!

Why not ask the teacher - they may have some resources or be prepared to photocopy stuff for you.

It's a great way to show how you're working in partnership too! :D

Our school uses this. They school adopted this scheme as my oldest daughter started reception, she is now 7 and a very confident reader. My youngest, 3 has known all the letter sounds from using the flash cards for about 8 months. It is a fun approach, very similar to jolly phonics just different pictures.

It uses an approach called Fred talking - fred (fred can be anything from a frog to a puppet really) and fred can only talk in pure sounds so he breaks down words into the pure sounds c - a - t = cat

I bought the flash cards from amazon and some of the books, there is also green words which are words that you can "fred" talk and then red words which are "tricky" ones that the children just learn eg, the.

There are three sets of flash cars, 1 and 2 & 3 set one is a set on its own and set 2 & 3 come together in a pack, I bought the cards from school office I think, I know they do stock them now at £5.00.

The letters are taught in a specific order too, if you want a list of the order let me know and I will email it to you.
