I am just deciding what hours i am going to work and was wondering what hours other people do?

I was thinking of saying 8:00am to 6:30pm Monday to Friday. Childcare before or after this time by arrangement at a different rate.

When i used to be a live out nanny i did 7:30am to 7:00pm so am not sure if the above hours would be ok.

Hi

When I started I was doing 8am till 5pm but now I do 7.30am till 6.15pm. Which I know come the winter months and dark mornings I'm going to find really tough. Especially when you consider that you need to get the house "ready" in the mornings as well before mindees arrive so that all takes time too, plus I have my own 2 LO's as well. My problem?? I just can't say "No"

I say 8am - 6pm but can offer flexibility. This week I have worked 7.30am - 7pm  so it depends on what families need really. When I first started minding I took on a child who started at 6.30am  - needless to say it didn't last long as I found it a strain on me and my two children who were very small at the time.

You can set your own hours but you may, like I have, had to rethink once you see what work is available.

i work 8-6 most days im finished by 5.30. If parents want later/earlier then sometimes i will work it but its charged at £5p/h even if they just want 20 min. If i dont want to i just say no (not that i ever have)

I work 8 - 5.30pm. A lot of childminders I know work 8 til 6.

Decide what you want to have as your core hours but also you coud say you offer flexibility if early starts or late finishes are needed

I do 7:30 - 5:30 with earlier starts at £5.00 per 30 mins and later finishes till 6pm at £5.00. After 6pm is my time as by then I've done 10.5 hours work and need the remaining energy for my own family.

open 0800-1800 and hours earlier/later are charged at higher rate (as I'd prefer not to work them!

I open 7.30am - 6.00pm, but I only do that 3 days a week the other 2 I finish at 5pm. I do work outside these hours but charge a higher rate.

The choice is yours alone to make. However, do carefully consider how you will charge for this. My core hours are 8.00am to 5.30pm and anything outside of those hours is charged at double time - it's not that I am trying to deter parents from requesting earlier starts or late finishes - it's just that this is common practice around here and generally speaking a 9.5hour working day is long enough!

I would LIKE to work 8.00 till 5.30 but in reality it is more like 7.30 - 6.00
I try to be as flexible as possible and unfortunately that means starting earlier and finishing later than I would like, but thats the way it works :D

I start at 7a.m. two days a week and 7.30 the other days. My children are adults now though and I'm a morning person, so only have to get myself up! I used to work until 6.30 every day but now that I finish 5.15 most days, I couldn't go back to the late finishes, although finish at 6p.m. two days now, I'm desperate for them to go (especially in the winter when it's been dark for hours!)

Ideally, I LIKE to work 7.00 - 8.00a.m. (with an hour for lunch) ;)

I do 7am to 6.30pm. I charge and enhanced rate before 7.30 and after 6pm and for weekends as I do some 6 day weeks for shift workers

At the moment I am working 7.00 am to 5.30 pm Mon to Thurs and 7.30 am to 5.30 pm Fri. I did work those hours but til 6.00 pm on a Tues and Thurs til recently.

The hours I would really like to work would be 8.00 til 5.00 but not a lot of chance of that as those are the hours the parents work! I am also a morning person so would prefer to work earlier in the day rather than into the evening.

Trouble is although we can set our hours it depends on what work comes our way and whether we are prepared to work them.

I work 7 til 6 and one day I finished at 6.30pm. I don't mind the early starts so much but wouldn't want to be finishing later than 6pm every day. I'm abit of a mug and never charge extra for unsociable hours but..... I think when I sign up new mindees I will definitely be considering it. Next week I have agreed to look after one mindee 7am til 8.30pm this a 'one off' for 4 sessions. x

I would like to only be open 8-4 but in reality thats not possible so I can work anything from 6.30 am until normally no later than 7pm (depending on shift patterns) but on very rare occasions it can be a 10pm finish

To be honest in years gone by I used to work any hours required, early starts late finishes, weekends, bank holidays overnights all at no extra cost.:panic:
Not any more I m not sure if Im getting old or wise? At present I work 3 days per week Tues, Wed Thurs 3 weeks per month and 1 week I work Mon, Tues Wed Thurs, hours are 8am- 6pm most days, but it can be slightly earlier. Of course all this could change :D

Thanks everyone.

I think i will start with 8:00am to 6:30pm, as planned and see what parents need when i start. Mine normally get up between 7 and 7:30am so that will give me time to sort them out as well as the house. They go to bed at 7:30pm so again it will give me time with them. No doubt it will change but its a start point.

I work 8.15 - 6.15 at the moment. I think a 10 hr day is enough! I did say I would finish at 6pm but the mum of my only mindee at the time needed it till 6.15pm and I needed the work too much to turn it down!!!

At the moment i am working from 8.15am to 6.15pm approx and i am finding it too late in the evening - my own 2 boys (aged 4 & 5) both go to bed at 7pm! As of the summer holidays i will be working Term time only and from 8.15am to 5pm - delighted with this as i was finding it hard work.

I have never charged any extra monies for late nights etc but i def should have!!

HI i work 8.15am until 5.45pm at the mo and tbh am finding it ok BUT i have only been doing these hours for the last week! Before my new children started i was only doing a couple of hours a day so will prob catch up on me! I also work part time in the mornings 6-8am then rush back to do the childminding!

I guess it will depend on who you getreally and what they need. Good luck x
