Some of you may know that I care for a little boy who has hydrocephalus, he was diagnosed with it while still in Mum's tum so they were at least prepared forit. He has had to have a shunt fitted in his head to drain excess fluid away from his brain, this was done at 8 months, this went wrong and had to have it done again and he spent his first Christmas and New Year in hospital.
This has caused him to have both physical and mental delays which are still ongoing now and he has just turned 5. To cut a long story short, (it would take 2 or 3 pages to tell his whole story), he has been able to access specialist physio at Oswestry called The Movement Centre, the children have to be put forward by their local NHS and hopefully they will provide the funding for this, luckily C was able to get this, but some children who are accepted onto the programme aren't and so have to rely on fund raising to be able to get the care they need. His time at the centre has just come to an end and the difference that they have made to C's life is amazing. From just being able to bum shuffle he can stand unaided for a short time, he walks round the furniture, he can get himself onto and off a chair and he is able to walk a few steps unaided. He is attending mainstream school and is nearly at the end of his first year, he is able to say quite a few words and signs a lot of things. I did say it was long. We are all so proud of him and he is going to do a sponsored walk round a local water park a week on Sunday, he will be taking his wheelchair as he will get very tired and need to rest up, the walk would normally take about an hour, but we are anticipating about 2 for C and hopefully the weather will be nice as we are having a picnic afterwards. Sorry for the long thread but I am so proud of what he is achieving all the time and I just wanted to share it with all of you as I know you will understand how I am feeling.:clapping: :clapping: :clapping:
