Just wondering if your planning to do anything for the world cup with your mindees?

Footballs are very popular here so I thought we might hold our own mini world cup, make flags for the countries playing etc and have a whole theme around it.

Might do foods from the countries that he kids make the finals etc, try and find tradtional costumes etc. Should meet quite a lot of the learning goals and i know the kids will love it!

What are you planning?

I was thinking about this the other day. I used to teach and the languages dept always did a big world cup theme. Is a great idea for little ones. Flags, colours, shapes, football, dressing up, food and cultures.....

It is my theme for June - and DH will like the fact I will show just a spark more interest than usual!

I am - all my planning revolves around being in front of the telly when England are playing!!!:clapping:  One of the plus points of working from home!!

One of my mindees is obsessed with football so think we will be doing lots for it!! And its a good opportunity to talk about countries, flags, cultures etc.

So, yes, we will be doing things for it!!!

And did I mention watching the games too???!!!:clapping:

(I am even planning my holiday to make sure I am back in time for it!!)

Yes we're going to make flags for each of the countries taking part, then decorate my conservatory with them! Then when I have all the neighbours round for the 2nd England match (we all take it in turns in our street!) we shall be suitably decorated!!!

We'll also have a penalty shoot out in the park one day.

And will probably make some football biscuits or cakes.

Awaiting other ideas......

I did wonder about doing it but my ds is the only football mad one here so it seems a bit like its more for him. He also loves learning about other countries as well so it would be very him. The school is doing a football themed fete so i could. Just not really sure.

Lovely ideas, thats June sorted then.

During the last world cup our local primary school had the matches broadcast on the t.v.'s including in the pre-school room, Knowledge and Understanding of the World, here we come.

No interest in football here but I though we'd make some flags as that will interest them. Anyone know of any sites to download outlines? :p

The usual ones like dltk and enchanted learning will probably have them Chell,
and they will probably have a whole theme about it soon.

How about making lots of dolls from makingfriends.com and designing their own football kits.

We will be aiming our interest on mainly colour......on kits, flags and on number recognition on the shirts.
I will get some plain t shirts for them to decorate with fabric pens etc

We are doing a "pools" competition. This is between me and a cm friend.

Getting all the children to forecast all the results so we wont have to miss a match. The winner gets a football :D

Activity village will have a world cup section but it's not available yet.

There are some good flag colouring pages here

Poundland have loads of England things. They had an activity pack but I'm not sure what was in it other than coloured paper and stencils.

My mindees are all too young to appreciate this tournament, or the significance of it's location... however... as South Africa is the host country I'll no doubt be putting up Saffa flags everywhere, making fairycakes with Saffa flag designs, letting the kids colour in Saffa flag pictures, be dressed in the Saffa flag colours every day etc. etc. hehe
