Just thought I would share this with you.

I have been collecting some random things for PSR&N, which I have now put all in one box. It has in it...

Tub of marbles
Corks
Lots of bottle tops
Tubs
A stack of plastic cups
Bag of golf balls
A stack of margarine tubs
Box of curtain rings
Pack of straws
Set of scales
Different sized measuring jugs
Baking Measurers (tsp through to cups)
Rulers
Calculator
Runner bean seeds
Box of pegs

Basically, anything I had around the house that there was lots of (but different e.g lots of pegs but different colours)

The kids think this box is great. It can be used for all ages (removing the smaller items for the babies). They invent the most wonderful ideas for the different things and it is great for obs. I put the box down, press play on the camcorder and get noting. It seems to cover most of the 6 areas.

Just thought I would share because I am really chuffed with it!

Sounds lovely. I've just done a sensory basket that has lots of swishy rubber balls, shakers, rain makers, coloured shapes to look through, bells, groan tubes, foil blanket...... the mindees love it. x

I have put together a small box of number and shape books as well.

From 3 little pigs to Billy Goats Gruff. The children enjoy going through it when they are feeling number inspired :D

Great idea. We use curtain rings and hang them on a mug tree. They spend hours doing this! :D

What about items introducing other languages or writing systems ie a Braille Bug, books in Arabic/Chinese, pictures of baby signing.

Add an unusual object to trigger discussion.

Sound lotto game.

Puppets.

Old envelopes/postcards.

Mmmm will have a think ....

This a fantastic thread, It has inspired me to make up a box for each area of development.

I love this forum, whenever I log on I always come away with some fab ideas but I also come away feeling realy dumb and asking myself "Why didn't I think of that!" :D
