I didn't know we were allowed to smack them! So many inappropriate jokes flood my head..... :panic:

On a serious note, good - so it should be.

Oh what took them so long - I worked in a Jewish orthodox school (actually it was 2 schools in 1 I taught in the girls school in the morning and the boys n the afternoon) in London in 1990/91 and the Rabbai's used to cane the boys in the boys school. There was no physical punishment in the girls school.

i thought it would have been outlawed by now.

I thought it was already banned too. When I registered many years ago it was frowned on then and our local council was promoting a no smacking policy. I've still got the odd leaflet or too in my general folder that prospective parents can read.

I thought it was banned as well. Gosh, I'd be fuming if someone smacked my children! I would never dream of smacking them or anyone else's child either!

You learn something new every day!

Can you imgine the terror you would feel being sent to the headmaster's office and being told you were going to get the cane?

My youngest is a delightful little lad and because he went for his school dinner at the wrong time twice 1 of the dinner ladies threatened to send him to the headmaster - he was very upset - I think he would have had a heart attack if he would have been threatened with the cane.

Maybe they brought it out, due to the Muslim schools where the boys spend hours reciting the Koran and if they get it wrong they get whacked around the head.
Saw a documentary on it a few years ago and made me quite angry  All very well having religious schools, but it does not mean you can abuse the pupils.
