:( hi i have been filling in a daily sheet which includes child behaviour on arrival when they slept what they eat and time and activities/development the obs amd also a place 2 link it 2 eyfs i just fill it in every day and add pics if taken and put then in a ring binder. as any on got a better idea or will this b fine

hi again

what you are filling out is more to do with a daily diary
a learning journal is about making observations of a child; taking a step back and looking at what they are doing, saying etc.

Ie:

Child XXX age XXX
Date/Time

XX was playing in the sand and he was using his finger to mark make. He concentrated very hard and looked up triumphantly as said thats my name.

You would then link this to the learning and development sections (and see what area /phase/age band of development it falls under ie:
Creative
Physical
Communication and Language

if possible get a photo of it

you would then do next steps which could be:
encourage mark making with a variety of methods:
use wet sand
water squirter bottle
provide pencils/crayons/chalks and things to write on
hide letters in the sand/water

this is basic but a learning journal
