Just had a newsletter from NCMA and thought I'd copy it here for everyone.

The UK governements Vetting and Barring Scheme {VBS** came into effect in October 2009. The scheme is designed to help ensure that people whose background shows that they should not work with children are barred from doing so. Eventually most people who regularly do certain specified work with children will be required to register with the Independent Safeguarding Authority {ISA**.
The scheme is being intorduced in phases:

The first phase started with the intorduction of new barred lists which came into force on 12 October 2009, containing the names of people barred from working with children.
The second phase startes in July 2010. The VBA will in due course require all new CSSIW & OFSTED registered childcare providers and employees to register with the ISA
From April 2011, ISA registrations will begin for the existing workforce and existing childminder household members.
The fee for an application to the ISA will be £28, in addition to the £36 Criminal Records Bureau disclosure fee, i.e £64 in total.

For more information visit the 'Your business' section of the NCMA website where you can access a list of 'Frequently Asked Questions' regarding the scheme. www.************* (http://www.*************) You can also visit the Independant Safeguarding Authority at www.isa-gov.org.uk (http://www.isa-gov.org.uk) Tel: 03001231111.
