Just thought I'd write a blow by blow account of my first inspection.
10am, Ofsted at the door, I opened it on the chain and stood in the doorway and had a really good look at her ID, invited her in and introduced her to my mindee and showed her where my certificate was and also told her where the fire exits were. Got her to sign my diary with name, time in, time out.
Took her into the living room where all my paperwork was arranged in piles and the rest was in the open lockable box on the dining room table.
She put her bag down on the floor and I asked her if it was OK if I put it behind the stairgate to stop J riffling through it.
My cat came in and I noticed that she flinched, so I asked her "Are you OK with cats", she said she was a bit nervous of them, so I put the cat upstairs in a bedroom.
She then settled down to look at the policies and J and I, went into the sun room to play with the toy kitchen and I just followed him around.
After a few minutes, J wanted to go out so I told Mrs O that we were going out to feed the chickens and we spent almost an hour out in the garden as it was so sunny and warm she loved the garden and the fact it was segregated with a green mesh fence and that there was a pond with a safety grid on it.
Mrs O kept going back in to get other bits of paperwork and she asked me basic questions, not even ones about EYFS as she could tell from my SEF (partialy completed) and my learning journeys that I had grasped how it all worked.
At around 11am, I changed J's nappy (wet) and she observed me using a glove, putting the nappy in a bag and wiping J's hands and then me wipping down the mat with anti-bac wipes, she also watched me washing my hands...in the kitchen! (she did ask why I did it there) I said, that I could see into the sun room, hallway and dining room from there and was safer, I also told her that any washing up was in a bowl and was not in the sink.
I then made J a snack of fruit (banana, mango and pineapple), wipes his hands with a wipe before he ate it and he sat at the little table.
J and I sat down to watch some cbeebies and she talked to me about some recomendations and some other questions about my policies and we then went upstairs to have a look in the bedroom used for sleeping, she also had a quick peek in the other bedrooms and my daughters tip!
She then asked me to sit next to her for the feedback, she mentioned the 17 areas and was saying good, good.. and then she said for the last 4 (gave a pause), you have outstanding!
I was so sure she was going to say satisfactory. I went bright red! :o
She then went on to say, she could not wait to get back to the office and tell all the others. When she left we shook hands and I said "I feel like a need to hug you" and she did :D
In total the inspection went on for 2hrs and 15 mins.
I was starving hungry by then!
