we made a zebra crossing out of lining paper got bikes etc out took it in turns saying look right, left etc and saying when rd was safe to cross they enjoyed it and had fun learning we also coloured pictures in i googled and found lots at the end of week they all got certificates, im sure you do rd safety every day when your out but making it a bit of fun helps them learn:)

Try musical statues but with you shouting 'stop'. This gets them used to it!

I made traffic lights with paper plates and we talked about what the colours meant.

I set up a pretend road in the garden to practise crossing safely.

For Littlies, teaching them to observe and judge speed and distance is the crucial building block to enable them to cross the road safely when they are older..... look at that red car, it's going fast! the biccyle is slower than the van etc, and listening for sounds whilst by the road.... they will need to know how to listen well for listening for cars, otherwise, reinforce your own sfety rules for the roas, about staying the wall side of the pushcahir, walking not running, holding your hand to cross etc etc, and talk about how you choose a safe place to cross.... no this isn't a good place, it's by a parked car etc, and point out safe crossings eg lollipop ladies, zebra and pelican crossings..... it's not really realisitc to expect a child that young to learn how to cross dafeyl but you can lay the groundwork!

My niece sings a traffic light song .... darn I get remember how it goes, will have to call my sister ....

Here you to, to the tune of twinkle twinkle little star.

Twinkle, twinkle Traffic Lights
On the corner shining bright
Red means stop, Green means go
Orange means go but very slow
Twinkle, twinkle traffic lights

Do you do a school run past a lollipop lady/man, perhaps they wouldn't mind posing for a photo with the children - visual clues.

Trafficclub is great, i got books and stickers and sheets to do with kids, then we made our own stop signs, like lollypop ladies use, we then arranged for a lollypop lady to visit our childminding group and we pretended to be cars and give way to the other pedestrian children etc
take them for walks and do the greencross code with them whenever u cross road, if your not lucky enough to have a childminding group you can arrange this with then if you have a freindly local lollypop lady she may chat to your children to.
The activities you get in teh book from the road safety site are fab, they teach all different modes of transport to.
my 3yr olds loved it.

I have just been on the site and really want the pack! Not sure if I am eligible for a free pack, so sent a message to them asking. Did you get a free pack?
