I just got my Registration certificate today! Was chuffed when it came through the door but then I read it! It says I can only have 2 children in the early years age group....my son is 2 years old and Im expecting a baby in August! So thats it all I can do is have 3 after school mindees!!! Im so upset because I had a 9 month old waiting to start once I was registered, now Im gonna have to tell her mum I cant have her! Im gutted, even contemplating not bothering now! What a waste of time! Wont even be able to do my nvq :(

You are usually allowed 3 under 5's but have to take your own children into consideration. The certificate usually means that you have 2 children in addition to your own child, but when your baby is born, you would only be able to have one mindie, so you are ok to look after the 9 month old

You are normally allowed 3 children in the early years group. Your 2yr old and expected baby take up two places, so you are left with 1 space.
So you can still have the baby

You are normally allowed 4 children in the early years group. Your 2yr old and expected baby take up two places, so you are left with 2 spaces, usually for one EYFS child up to 31st Aug of their 5th birthday and a under 12 month old.
So you can still have the baby
I take it, that you did tell them you were pregnant :)

Ripeberry, its 3 under 5, but only one of those can be under 1. I think when Leelee's baby is born, then she will only be allowed one mindie aged 1 -5.

Think you edited whilst I was typing, cos your post is different now...lo

Ripeberry, its 3 under 5, but only one can be under 1 and the rest. I think when Leelee's baby is born, then she will only be allowed one mindie aged 1 -5

unless she has 2 mindees when baby is born then apply for a variation

I thought it was 3 under 5's?? please don't tell me there's another change!

Anyway, you cert excludes your own children so you can have 2 at the moment and only 1 once your baby arrives unless you want to have four and apply for a variation. Your 9 month old will be over 1 by time your baby arrives so that is all fine.

You can (or should) also be allowed to have up to 5 children under 8 in addition to the early years children.

Never thought of that. At least Leelee can now confidently take on the proposed mindie and do her NVQ

My certificate says 1 under the age of 5 (as I have two of my own) and 3 between 5 and 8.

The 2 is definitely in addition to your son, but as the others have said you will only be able to have 1 once your baby is born and that 1 will be between 1 and 5 - which the 9 month old will be by then so you are ok :)

When my son was under 5, my cert said 2 children under 5. Its now changed as he is 7, but know you will allowed to take on the proposed mindie.

If you confused, why not ring Ofsted, but having said that, you will probably more confused :)

I went totally into panic mode then!!! Thanks for your help, they should explain that they exclude ur own child off the certificate numbers! When and how do I do a variation (if I do decide to have 4)! Not too keen on doing lots of school runs, with 3 little one's!

Just in case anyone prereg or new is reading this in Scotland, the above doesn't apply on our certs, it is in total including own kids.

I have always thought it was up to a maximum of 6 children under 8. How can you have up to 5 children under 8 as well as your 3 under 5's ? Sorry if I have misunderstood!

At least that saves confusion. Are you allowed the same as us, 3 under 5's

yes sorry - I'm getting in on the confusing everyone now:blush:

I thought it was 6 Hebs, checked my cert and it says 5 - but that's because its accounting for my daughter - duh!!

Yes, 3 under 5 (the early years group) and up to 6 under 8 but that includes the 3 littlies.

So, if you've your full amount of under 5's you could have another 3 children up to the age of 8 - as Hebs said - thanks Hebs:thumbsup: had to write it down just to get it straight in my head!

Yes we are allowed 6 in total of which a maximum of 3 will be under 5 and only one under one and this includes the cms own children

Leelee - whatever is stated on your certificate is what children you may mind (it would normally say 3 under 5 years but because you have a son in the early years group it says 2 under 5)
