Hi..

I'm wondering how everyone else with a dog/s incorporates dog walking into childminding or if you do the doggie things before and after the minding?

I'm finding it really tricky especially if I have 3 under 3yos here to dog walk as well...

I'd love to hear how everyone else does it :) xxx

Hello,

I have two dogs and I do not walk the dogs with mindees, this is because I wouldn't feel happy trying to keep eye on dogs and mindees at same time. The dogs are walked before or after. I also do not use my garden for childminding but leave that as the dogs space. The mindees don't have much to do with the dogs, I must admit dogs sleep most of the day on my bed! xxT

I quite often combine a walk with the mindees with a walk for the dog. Mindees and I go at our pace ( sloooow! ) and the dog races back and forth getting her exercise.
Probably 2-3 mornings are spent going for walks. On the days i don't take her DH takes her after work.

I have to say that I walk with at least two other minders so we can all look after each others children/dogs.

thats what i do, hubby works shifts so he either comes with or takes dog on his own. The mindees really enjoy walking the dog and throwing the ball and sticks.

my dog is so well behaved and where we are it's very quiet so she isn't on a lead most of the time - she just potters along wilst the LO's are in the pram. I take the dog with meon the pre-school drop off and pick up - and the only problem is all the children want her to go inside the pre-school with them!!!

I walk over the fields 2 or 3 mornings a week with my dog. Mindees enjoy it, as do I, and the dog :D

I used to take mine out everyday with the mindees, some times it was over the woods which they loved and he could run free and somtimes just round the houses now i dont do it so much as OH has changed jobs and is able to walk him more but the mindees keep asking to take him over the woods everytime we go past them! I think the fresh air and excersise does them good and we used to discuss so many different things over the woods and use it as time to do leaf collections in the autumn or bug hunts in the summer, blackberry picking etc.

Hubby takes him out before going to work in the morning and either my 16 year old or hubby takes him later in the day. If i am the only one available to do it then he has to wait until i finish work.

I have taken him on a walk with the children - only if i have older children though and a maximum of three children and then he is always kept on the lead. The other alternative is taking him whilst i am working but another adult has to be with me or my 16 year old - they then take full control of the dog and the kids are with me enjoyingwatching him run around chasing sticks that they throw!

Dh works shifts so we wait for him if mindee is here.

However if it is just me and my children I take them all :)

I take my 2 dogs out for a quick walk before mindees arrive - but weather permitting and depending on how many mindees i have on any particular day i do put mindees in buggy - toddler walks - and we take dogs out.

If i have the 20 month mindee we walk slow and dont go too far - we walk in the woods behind my house and dogs are off the lead. If its just the 1 mindee in the buggy i will walk for about an hour.

I manage to walk them like this 3 days a week - the other 2 weekdays its before and after work with long walks at the weekend to make up.

All the parents are happy with this arrangement.

we go dog walking quite a lot.. we are lucky to have fields close by and if my pram didnt need its wheels pumped up we would be out now...

2 lo in pram big mindees walking on one side both dogs on other side of pram and off we go..

i keep lo's in pram depending on weather but often let them out for a run too

we take picknic in summer and the football and the dogs are usualy well behaved too :D

try it when you have just a couple of mindees and see how you manage but its the same as taking your own children and if you want to do a risk ass as in type of outing just mention netles,, berries,, things like fallen trees or streets to cross..reins and the dredded doggie doodles and nappy sacks etc your first aid bag

go have fun and kill a couple of hrs take ya camera for obs and do a bit of a nature hunt on the way.. or if nr roads do ya letters n sounds etc

good luck n trust me its nice once you get use to the eyes in the bk of ya head lol

if i just have the two mindees that can walk we all go in the morning the kids love it :) when i have the baby its a bit more tricky as the dog is still young and gets under the pram :panic: but she is getting better. we are lucky to have a park at the end of the road . cant wait till summer lots of fresh air and a tired pup :clapping:

I sometimes walk the dog when out with the mindees , they love it and love taking it in turns to throw his frisbee( hands washed when we get home) It provides a lot of opportunities to talk about responsible pet ownership. Parents like the children going out with dog as they can't have a pet due to allergies. We don't take him every time as the children also like to go on bikes and I need my full attention on them .
