I'm going through a bit of a bad time at the moment. My partner and i have had problems since the birth of our son who's now 20 months old. My partner has said all along that he thinks i have post natal depression! I was really worried about seeing a doctor at the time because i was in the process of registering. I was worried people would think i'm unfit to look after other people's children where as it's the opposite with the kids. I'm great with my son and all my mindees love me. I tend to take it out on my oh and my mum who i've argued with loads.

I've started looking into PND again this week and do think i need to see a doctor but i'm worried about my registration. What will happen if i am diagnosed with post natal depression?? And especially if i have to go on anti depresents???

Anyone been through this or know anyone who has?? I'm putting off contacting the doctor because i'm scared!

I had post natal depression 9 months before i got registered, it doesnt make any difference as the reason you were off and as long as you are better and feeling more able to cope with day to day things then ofsted are fine too, the most important thing is that you get the help and feel beter soon.

Post natal depression is the worse thing to have, just after having a baby you should feel like the happioest people in the world and yet this baby takes over you and your life, it wants your attention all the time, people tell uyou the "best" way to look after it even though you are the mum, every one has an opion on whats the right way to do things, you feel tired, emotional, restless, upset, worst person in the world, hopless and everyone close to you are driving you in sane...... BUT you can feel better with talking about how you feel, i didnt do tablets, i just talked to the doctor, mum, hubby and everyone who would listen, i would make myself go for long walks and try to be out of the house meeting people even though inside i wanted to curl up in bed and disppear....Time and talking can make a world of different...

I hope you get the help you need (pm me if you want to talk) and support which is needed, and over time you will feel better again and like the old you, but please dont be frightened to talk to someone cause you dont want this to get worse...

Sending big hugs xxxxxxxxxx

It shouldn't be a problem at all - You have rcognised you are having a problem & you are seeking help to deal with it - that help may be allowing some you time, excercise, talking or tablets or all of them! It doubley shouldn't be a problem as you're LO / mindees care isn't what you are struggling with (that's not how your PND has presented itself IYSWIM)....It's no different to getting ill & going to the Dr for antibiotics...you have a problem - you seek help & take appropriate measures in both cases! I would just write down the details - (you're action plan) for your file.
Get the help you need NOW - PND won't go away by itself & can get much worse if left - nobody deserves to feel the way PND can make you feel, so the sooner you get it sorted the better.:group hug: x

Hi, I have just registered and have been on anti-depressants for a year and a half following my dd's birth.
Ofsted sent me for a meeting with a specialist to see that i was ok to look after children and after being there 5 mins he declared me fit with no restrictions to become a childminder!
You will be fine:thumbsup:

Hope all is going well with you..... I have had PND (2nd son, 10mths) but because we got help and didn't ignor it, it was fine.... the most important thing is you are getting help, if you think it will go away on its own -then thats a problem, seeing your Dr is not! be brave and remember its an illness, you wouldn't judge someone with an illness would you? xxT
