Some local farms let you do this much cheaper, we have a local childrens farm and it wasnt that expensive to do it through them.

Okay, what am I missing? Why is it over £200 to see a chick hatch out of an egg?

Ooh I'd love to do this, but I still think it's a lot of money and there's no way I could justify that :(

Far too expensive - I couldn't justify even half of it - I know they do it at Heaton Farm in Manchester and have a rolling programme so there are always eggs at different stages and you are more than likely to see eggs hatching no matter what day of the year you go there but I couldn't even justify the cost of travelling all the way there to see it. I've had so many outgoings in the past few years that I just couldn't justify such an expense. - Lovely idea - but that is what it will have to remian - an idea.

Would have thought there would be some way of doing this online. Some farm or other is bound to have webcam on eggs or something? I will search later if I get time. I know it's not the same but £200+ is a bit on the ridiculous side in my opinion! I would probably only justify spending a tenner on it! Ha ha! They don't call me stingy for nothing!!!!! He he!

i'm not spending £200+ though

and it helps keep my tax bill down  would rather spend it on this than it go to the tax man :D

Think it was about £50 when she did it through the farm, they hired her the incubator for the eggs and they took a couple of weeks to hatch and then she had the chicks for a week or two before she took them back as no one wanted them, she had 12 eggs.

We have chickens anyway, but the flock has reduced gradually over the last twelve months, so will be getting a broody sitting on eggs in the late spring, much cheaper than the above option (even reduced!) but you do have to be prepared to house, keep and feed them afterwards but the benefits go on and on!!

My mum used to do chicks and ducks like thios through a local farm set-up, but the school had their own incubator, you can get some small ones for a reasonable cost, that you can then use every year, and the farm take the hatchlings back afterwards, you could try calling around if you don't fancy the on-line company .

have to say that your children will LOVE the whole experience and it is a fab idea to set-up, well worth the money!!!!
